In the orchestra, some rare varieties of instruments can occasionally be found.

In our most recent concert, Of Kings, Kindred Spirits and Star-Crossed Lovers, we had the chance to feature some of these, including the harp (played by Julianne Green), tenor saxophone (played by Thomas McKay), the bass clarinet (played by Kelli Dixon), and the bass trombone (played by David Schmidt).

If you are interested in learning the harp, contact The Harp Society of Tasmania Inc.

If you are interested in learning any saxophone, clarinet or trombone, we recommend reaching out to your local community bands.

In the south: Clarence City Band (Lindisfarne), Hobart City Band Inc (Hobart), Derwent Valley Concert Band (New Norfolk).

In the north: Burnie Concert Band (Burnie), Launceston City Band and UTAS Community Music Programme (Launceston).

You can also touch bass with brass bands to learn trombone, such as: Glenorchy City Brass Inc. and Ulverstone Municipal Band.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure to present our second concert of the year, Of Kings, Kindred Spirits and Star-Crossed Lovers.

Here is a photo back stage of our amazing soloists, Phoebe Masel (violin) and Nick McManus (cello), with our wonderful conductor, Will Newbery, just after they had finished the Concerto for Violin and Cello in A Minor by Johannes Brahms (Op. 102).

We would like to thank all three of them, plus the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra for such an extraordinary experience.๏ฟผ

We had our final rehearsal last night for our concert this Sunday, Of Kings, Kindred Spirits and Star-Crossed Lovers.

Our conductor, Will Newbery, has been a pleasure to work with, along side our soloists, Phoebe Masel and Nick McManus. All three are performers with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and have taken time out of their busy schedules to play with us.

We are very grateful for this opportunity. ๐Ÿค—

You can come hear us play the March from Sigurd Jorsalfar by Grieg, the Concerto for Violin and Cello in A Minor by Brahms featuring Phoebe and Nick, and Suite No. 2 from Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev.

The concert starts at 2:30pm this Sunday (the 21st of June) in the Sir Stanley Burbury Theatre Theatre on the Sandy Bay campus of University of Tasmania.

Tickets can be booked here (or purchased on the door):

Last night some of us got an itty bitty distracted โ€ฆ again ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿค—

Benito, the infamously cute and pint sized puppy of our soloists Phoebe and Nick, ventured through the orchestra during our rehearsal of the Brahms Concerto for Violin and Cello in A Minor (Op. 102).

He definitely pup-graded our day! ๐Ÿถ

Our next concert, Of Kings, Kindred Spirits and Star-Crossed Lovers, is on Sunday the 21st of June at 2:30pm.

As you may or may not know, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra has been touring the state playing music for free in the TSO to You series as well as popping into local bands and orchestras like the Derwent Valley Concert Band and Clarence City Band.

This week the string players of the DSO had a chance to go to the TSO Studios to play alongside six of the TSOโ€™s string players.

During this Strings Workshop, players had a chance to work on tricky sections and passages that are found in the works of our up-and-coming concert, Of Kings, Kindred Spirits and Star-Crossed Lovers. This included parts from the March from Sigurd Jorsalfar by Grieg and Suite No. 2 from Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev.

We are eternally grateful for the community outreach programmes that the TSO does and we thank them for all of their kindness and efforts.

Last night we had our soloists, Phoebe Masel and Nick McManus, join us to rehearse the Concerto for Violin and Cello by Johannes Brahms (Op. 102), which will feature in our next concert, Of Kings, Kindred Spirits and Star-Crossed Lovers.

We did not expect, however, that three soloists would show up, which turned out to be a paws-itive experience for many of the players.๐Ÿพ

You can catch Phoebe and Nick on Sunday the 21st of June at the Sir Stanley Burbury Theatre at 2:30pm โ€ฆ It might be just the two of them this time.

Tickets can be pre-booked here (or purchased on the door):

โ€ฆ If you are curious, the puppy is called Benito!
