Vittorio De Sica's UMBERTO D screening at LE CIN/REWIND this February for one session only.
Umberto D is a movie that leaves a lasting impression in your memory banks. One of those films that comes back to you during your daily life, it's scenes and composition so beautiful with the landscape and cityscapes of old time Italy presented in classic black and white, it's a film that is solemn, heart-wrenching and so beautifully human. - Graziano Di Martino

"Umberto D follows an elderly pensioner as he strives to make ends meet during Italy’s postwar economic recovery. Alone except for his dog, Flike, Umberto struggles to maintain his dignity in a city where human kindness seems to have been swallowed up by the forces of modernization. His simple quest to satisfy his basic needs—food, shelter, companionship—makes for one of the most heartbreaking stories ever filmed, and an essential classic of world cinema." Criterion

Screening on Sunday 4th of February as part of our VITTORIO DE SICA special along with THE BICYCLE THIEVES (Ladri di Biciclette).

“The stars have their beginnings and their ends. For a few moments somewhere in between, a few, very few may support thought.”

Visually filled with Brutalist architecture from the fallen Yugoslavia era and beautifully shot by Sturla Brandth Grøvlen with narration by Tilda Swinton, Last and First Men, Jóhann Jóhannsson’s only foray into the visual realm is a colossal, cerebral meditation on life and the universe. Adapted by Jóhann and José Enrique Macián from Olaf Stapledons novel of the same name, Jóhann’s score adds an ethereal soundscape that, along with the stunning visuals creates a mental massage for the senses. We can’t wait to screen this wonderful piece of cinema at Le Cin in 2024.
