Welcome to October/ !This is my reintro post - hello! 👋
I am Amanda, an artist, a PhD student (environmental history), and a South Australian living near Naarm in Victoria.
This picture is of me back in January, having a beautiful summer break with my family on Nharangga land. I love that version of me: happy, sunkissed (but sunsmart), and breathing in that ocean air. Most of the time in the present I’m sat at my desk reading, writing, scrolling - here’s to borders opening soon, and chances to set foot on Nharangga land.
Also yes I know October images are all autumnal despite living in the Southern Hemisphere… I love both, ok? I’m a Halloween baby! October means spring planting AND pumpkins! Get into it 🎉

NAIDOC 2021: Heal Country!
Since starting Le PhD in this year, I’ve read so much amazing stuff about Indigenous knowledges and Country. It seems increasingly pressing that we (as colonisers) turn to Indigenous people to direct care for country. Nature/culture, mind/body, us/them … Cartesian binaries are out, baby! Let’s live into a new era of respect and connection. 💟

Losing two grandmothers this past few weeks has been hard on the heart. And it’s been hard to concentrate too. But my heart feels better and I can see through the fog when I play with paint. ❤️

When things are hard, play with paint.
