.." ... The cycle of life and death is compressed in the life of a flower, and flowers also serve as symbolic expressions of these significant milestones in our lives. They become vessels of manifest expression, vessels of contemplation for our sorrows, vessels that remind us of the presence of grace, hope and joy. The beauty of the native iris (Patersonia sericea) is so transient – each flower blooming for only one day – a vibrant expression of hope, a promise for new life in the future. The native iris has been a symbol and inspiration for this work and my life over the past few years. Here it serves as a vessel or vehicle for expressions of love and loss. Drawings in process and form become a meditation upon moments of intimacy with each bloom, and moments of memory that connect me to loved ones no longer with us. Revisiting the images and presence, layers of memory accumulate and erode, hence works feature drawings with edges torn, prints eroding, ephemeral natural forms which may break down and disintegrate, but are also bearers of light ..."...
