🏫 School sporting facilities are increasingly becoming community facilities too.
Across South Australia, there’s growing interest in making school sporting facilities more accessible to local communities outside school hours.
It makes sense. Schools already have ovals, courts, playgrounds and other recreation spaces that can play a much bigger role in their local communities.
But greater access also means greater use.
More players on courts. More traffic across turf. Longer operating hours. More wear on surfaces and facilities.
As school and community use increasingly overlap, maintenance and lifecycle planning become even more important. Keeping facilities safe, functional and fit for purpose isn't just about the school day anymore.
For schools planning for greater community use, it's worth considering not only how people will access the facilities, but how those facilities will stand up to the additional use over time.
