🖼️ A Glimpse into Melbourne’s Past 🎨

I’ve just finished a new painting for the Two Palettes Exhibition in Morpeth. This piece is inspired by an old reference photo of Bourke Street, Melbourne, capturing a moment in time that tells a story of a bygone era.

Bringing this historic scene to life has been a rewarding challenge, and I’ve focused on light, atmosphere, and detail to evoke the character of Melbourne’s past. Seeing the transformation from the original photograph to the finished painting reminds me why I love painting history—it’s a way to preserve and reimagine the world as it once was.

🎨 New Commission Painting: "Smoko" 🐴🐴

This piece was a personal project for a friend who had a clear vision of the elements he wanted to capture: two Clydesdales pulling a single plough, a picturesque farmhouse with an old barn, and a distant herd of cattle with a loyal working dog.

One special addition I made was including his wife bringing him food and a “Billy” of tea for his smoko break. This, along with the dog, creates a central triangle of interest, telling a story that ties the scene together in a subtle yet meaningful way.

A large gum tree and distant ranges complete the peaceful setting. It was a joy to bring his ideas to life on canvas and create a visual narrative that celebrates the beauty of rural life. 🌳🐕

I’m happy to say that my latest painting, "Rising Mists – Blue Gum Forest," has arrived at Morpeth Gallery! This painting captures the serene beauty of the Blue Gum Forest, located in the stunning Blue Mountains National Park. 🌳✨

The Blue Gum Forest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Australia’s most renowned bushwalking destinations. Dominated by towering mountain blue gums, with an understory of delicate shrubs, ferns, and vibrant orchids, it offers a breathtaking view and a peaceful escape into nature.

In this painting, you’ll find an early morning scene where the tranquil morning mists rise as the sun beams through the canopy, creating ethereal rays of light that illuminate a distant misty campsite and the Grose River. It brings back fond memories of my adventures in this magnificent forest with companions who share my love for the area. 🌞💚
