I had a lovely time.

When the wonderful Sam Paine asked me how this exhibition was different from previous ones, I probably gave a dumb answer. Here is the answer that I should have given.

This exhibition is far more serious in content than any of my previous ones. It may look even sillier, but it was an attempt to consider deep problems in a sincere and thoughtful way. The pictures are intended to be objects that you can look to for comfort and guidance in difficult times.

This painting shows the Ancient Greek Gods of Fortune and Justice embroiled in a fight at the muffin counter at a conference for deities.

The idea that success, wealth and health are a result of hard work, is such a cruel and harmful myth. It allows us to ignore the suffering of others, to be prideful in our success and to be blind to the dangers that can overtake any of us at any time. It can also make us feel that we deserve the truly horrible things that happen to us.

None of us have any say as to the time, the place, the family or the body that we are born into. From the moment we are conceived, there is just so much luck involved in everything.

Is it any surprise that Justice is forever throwing muffins at Fortune's head?
