I got to see sun rays as big as three tanks of water. And I was only 100m away from it. I have never been that close to the sun’s rays like this in my life. I wish that you could have seen what I saw.

Hey guys it’s been a long time of being uninspired but finally! I was driving back home after a long day and I noticed in the corner of my eye a massive dead eucalyptus. And in that moment a beautiful white cockatoo took off from one branch. And I just had to try and capture it in this painting.

The first layer that you create in watercolours is meant to capture the colour of light that is falling on your subjects.
You always start out light and get darker and darker. 🥰
That’s completely different to acrylics where you can paint light colours over dark colours.

Watercolour of black man holding flowers
in the last year I have had to seriously had to reevaluate my views on men, and try and see them in a new light. Sometimes I still find myself a bit hostile and I’m trying to get better with my relationships towards men. Nothing bad has ever happened to me but I have adopted a lot of negative beliefs throughout my childhood and adolescence towards men. And vice versa I have also had to reevaluate internalised misogyny that I have held towards women too like sl*t shaming, pick me girl energy etc. I guess all I’m trying to say is that everyone is human and men and women are not as different as I used to think.

I didn’t realise what relationships were really like to maintain after high school.
In high school you see your friends everyday and you get to build a bond with them quite easily.
But when you leave high school it’s so much more difficult to maintain your relationships.
Maintaining relationships after high school is like maintaining a beautiful garden. If I don’t take care of my beautiful plants, I don’t water them, I don’t give them fertiliser, then my flowers will whither away. Same as real life, if I don’t make time for my friends to see them and catch up with them, then should I be surprised that my relationships whither away? I learned to treat my friends like flowers in my garden, if I want them there, then I have to make time for them.

Sometimes you just don’t have a reason for painting something.
Now I understand why some artists don’t want people to read too much into their work.
Whatever art means, it’s personal to you and you only, so take from it what you will.
Sometimes other things happen and art starts to take on a message as time goes on.
Maybe later on you realise why you painted something when you gain hindsight.
