RIP. A true originator has left us.

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Sonny Rollins. The Saxophone Colossus died this afternoon at his home in Woodstock, NY at the age of 95. “I think when the creative person ends, he continues in the next existence. I’m a person who believes this life isn’t the be-all and end-all of everything. A spiritual person doesn’t feel like that.” –S.R. (2009)

In Memory of Frank Gibson Jrn

We are saddened by the passing of Frank Gibson Jrn, an extraordinary jazz drummer and previous member of the WAAPA Jazz Department at Edith Cowan University. Frank spent five years with us from 1992, although it feels like it was longer, based on the impact he had on the Perth jazz community.

Frank’s drumming was masterful— and his creative flair inspired students and professionals alike. His rapport with students truly set him apart - Frank went above and beyond - always offering encouragement and wisdom (often over the phone). His passion for jazz and dedication to nurturing the next generation of musicians will be remembered with immense gratitude here. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Frank.
