Reels@Wehl is Mount Gambier's official film society and a member of the Federation of the Victorian Film Societies whose patron is film critic Mr David Stratton from ABC's 'At the Movies' and The Australian newspaper. The film society is run by volunteers and is an incorporated not-for-profit organisation under Lime Stones Inc, ABN 90 261 676 809. Objectives of Film Societies around the world - t

o encourage interest in film as an art and as a medium of information and education by means of the exhibition of films of all kinds. Reels @ Wehl Film Society was created in August 2008 to bring art-house Australian and international films to Mount Gambier and the region. Many of the films that are shown in the art-house theatres in the capital cities are not available in commercial cinemas in a lot of regional or country Australia, as there is not the population to support a profitable screening. Reels was established as a not-for-profit and run by volunteers to enable the screening of these films for the local community.

Title: A Great Friend (French 2023)
Date: Thursday JANUARY 16 TH 7.00PM
Venue: Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre

“A Great Friend” features bilingual French and British actor Wilson Lambert playing billionaire
Vincent Delcour who finds himself stranded on a remote mountainside and must rely on the good
nature and hospitality of Pierre, only to discover that they are completely different in personality
and outlook.
Vincent’s the envy of the world, but is he happy?
It seems not. Recently he’s been subject to panic attacks. He needs to get away, away to the
countryside where people are people, not mere items on a spreadsheet.
Vincent Delcour is a billionaire, entrepreneur and philanthropist - a man who has everything, but
also has an awful lot of people depending on him.
In this case the local is Pierre –played by another veteran French star Grégory Gadebois. Having
picked up the stranded Vincent, the taciturn and grumpy Pierre reluctantly lets him stay the night.
But next day, the refreshed Vincent wonders if he can stay longer. This idyllic rural life could be the
making of him!
Directed by Writer-director Eric Besnard

A recent reviewer has written “one of the most expertly put
together films I’ve seen for donkey’s years”.
Just look at all the elements of comedy or farce: a doctor, a
courier, a substitute – all French words!
An aging, worn out Emergency doctor “Serge”, the only on-
call doctor on duty, on the night before Christmas.
Serge accidentally runs into Malek a bicycle courier – Malek
can’t deliver anything and Serge has injured his back and
can’t move!!
The compromise ensues: Serge offers to give Malek the use
of his car to deliver meals for partygoers and in exchange he
does the leg work for Serge’s house calls.
What could possibly go wrong?

Starring Michael Blanc as Serge and Hakim Jemili as Malek.
Directed by Tristam Seguela.
IMDB rating: 6.5/10

Please Note: City Council have now provided a Disabled
Access/ Wheel Chair lift so members can negotiate the stairs.
