Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre

Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre A premier arts and entertainment venue located in the heart of Mount Gambier, in the Limestone Coast.

An excellent choice
..for convention organisers wishing to take delegates away from the hustle and bustle of fast-paced city environments to a quieter regional setting to focus on the issues at hand and enjoy the local hospitality.
..for producers, presenters and promoters to link into Country Arts SA’s network of performing arts centres across South Australia and benefit from collaboration on

tours and negotiation of venue costs, performances and box office as a statewide package. An ideal location

The South East of South Australia is famed for its sparkling seas, fine Coonawarra wines, seafood fresh from the ocean, fascinating limestone caves and tall timber. Mount Gambier is the unofficial capital of the South East, and is built on the slopes of an extinct volcano that gives it its other name – the Blue Lake City. The lake within the volcano crater holds one of nature’s great mysteries, its waters turning brilliant blue for several months of the year. The Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre is a fully equipped multi-purpose arts centre in the heart of this beautiful country and can accommodate a diverse range of conferences, performing arts, film screenings, seminars and product launches. Country Arts SA is proud to announce the film Kumarangk: Sacred Women’s Business will premiere as part of Adelaide Film Festival 2026 including a screening here in Mount Gambier!

The feature-length documentary unravels the historically sidelined story of the Ngarrindjeri women protestors who resisted the building of the bridge from Goolwa to Hindmarsh Island (Kumarangk) in the 1990s.

Written and directed by Ngarrindjeri woman Tracey Rigney and co-produced by Ngarrindjeri man and Country Arts SA First Nations Arts and Cultural Manager Josh Trevorrow alongside experienced producer Carolyn Johnson, this film has been a labour of love.

A new chapter has begun for Varcoe Foundry, which reopened earlier this month following its refurbishment.

The venue welcomed almost 100 patrons for the launch of Country Arts SA's new live music series, Soundworks, with performances by Katie Aspel, Nathan May and Julian Ferraretto.

Located in the former windmill factory adjacent to the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre in Mount Gambier, the event marked an exciting moment for the venue and its place in the region's arts community.

We were also pleased to welcome Assistant Minister for Arts Sarah Andrews for the occasion.
