Tommaso writes, "I curated this program to encapsulate the diversity and exciting array of repertoire of the classical guitar.
It begins with two works that offer a reprise for the audience and explore tonalities and sonorities which are dear to all those who are familiar with the Spanish classical guitar.
Following these is Farewell to Stromness – a work that is close to my heart after having spent six years in Scotland. The beautiful tune is reminiscent of Scottish traditional music.
Concluding the first half is Bouwer’s most impactful work. As a guitarist himself, he is able to utilise the instrument to the fullest – capturing the imagination of the listener with fantastical and evocative motifs.
The second half begins with the renowned lutanist and composer, John Dowland. This piece is one of Dowland’s most refined and sets the tone for the following work.
Following this, is a mammoth work by the cannonic composer, Benjamin Britten –Nocturnal After John Dowland . It explores the melancholic themes which are ever present in the music of the Renaissance composer, John Dowland.
I have concluded the program with an exciting work from the Classical era which showcases the virtuosic possibilities of the classical guitar. Rossiniana No.6 is the last of the set of six works inspired by Gioachino Rossini."

Alexandra and Rod wish you a Happy New Year and here's something wonderful to start it off.

To help bridge the gap with more fine music until the next Oberon festival in November, a remarkable classical guitarist returns for “Music on Mount David”, but this time at nearby “Longdown” just 6km south of Black Springs.

MOMD patrons met Tommaso Girotto in late January 2021, performing solo and with cellist Margie Iddison and flautist James Fortune . In the intervening years, Tommaso was accepted into the Accademia Chigiana Summer Academy in 2021 where he studied with the late renowned guitarist, Oscar Ghiglia. He also had the opportunity to study under the tuition of Lukasz Kuropaczewski at his International Guitar Workshops in Poland in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, with full grades for all his performances, he completed his Master of Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz - Köln under Goran Krivokapić. See www.tommasogirotto.com for more.

On January 18th 2025 , Tommaso will perform at “Longdown”, the magnificent home of Rosemary and Andrew Sempell, 3130 Abercrombie Road, Black Springs. (On the right before you get to the Isabella Road turn-off but after “Kipling”.) His beautifully crafted program and virtuosic, sensitive performance is bound to delight our audience. Numbers are strictly limited as the subtleties of such a brilliant classical guitarist are best enjoyed in an intimate setting.

Time: 2.30 for 3.00PM, at “Longdown” 3130 Abercrombie Rd, Black Springs.
Cost: Still $50 at the door. Please do bring a grazing plate to share.
