Hi everyone. Thanks for being part of my journey. (Links down the bottom)
Just a quick rundown if you missed my last post. I am writing an album. Yep, after 45 years as a musician I am finally doing my own album. Half of the album are songs that I have written over the last 20+ years and they have been used on other peoples albums I have done and film sound tracks. I have re done a few of them an re owned the story. Half of the albums are about dealing with Child Sexual Abuse. My rock spider was an Anglican Monk and it took me till 2014 to come out and go to the police. So nearly 6 years later after the Royal Commission and the rest, I am re owning my story. Sort of like – Victim – Surviver – re writer. So that’s that side. The other is my dream world.
I created a dream world from about 8 years old. It was a safe place for me to go to escape from dealing with the silence of abuse. Half of the album is about this world. Have used 1970/80 synths and the story is told my my dream self. When all of this is finished, I would like to do a bunch of the songs live and talk about my story to open up the conversation of using Art/Expression for dealing with Child Sexual Abuse. So that’s the gist of it. So last time I put up Bitter Sweet and Twilight. Bitter sweet has been used in a few films. It was originally 9 minutes long with a full orchestra, this is a chilled, cut down version. It is about the feelings of pain when in a relationship that triggers your past. Twilight is the first part of my dream story.
The 2 new ones are Hide and Seek and Forever. Forever sits in the dream story. I wrote this about 25 years ago and it is about the stillness of being in nature and letting the wind tell you where you should go. Hide and Seek is rather heavy. The original went for nearly 9 minutes and is part of an album ‘Army X’ that I wrote in 2004. Without going into the depth of the story, my Rock Spider played games of hide and seek. The song is about my other self as an es**rt in Sydney and thinking about how low her life had become. When I had my house in Albury on fire from a Transphobic Molotov cocktail, I was ready to move to Sydney and thought that this was where my life was going. I ended up in Melbourne with some friends though. So re doing these songs, especially Hide and Seek, is re doing the song/story. Thanks for your time.
