Bronzewing string quartet at The Little Music room, Littlehampton

The Little Music Room in Littlehampton will be graced by a performance from the Royal Commonwealth Society Orchesta's string ensemble Bronzewing in June.
Taking inspiration from the theme 'there is hope after despair', Bronzewing will be performing a program that centres around Felix Mendelssohn's final major composition, String Quartet no.6 in F minor.
Written after the death of his sister F***y, Mendelssohn's string quartet is a rumination on the anguish of mourning.
The orchestra's manager Linda Pirie said that it is a particularly dark piece.
“Mendelssohn was close to his sister,” she said.
“They were inseparable.
“His inconsolable grief is shown by raging tremolos in the first movement.
“The whole thing has such dynamic and virtuoso expressive scope.
“You can tell this is a man who's grieving intensely and doesn't know how to go on.”
Linda said that the event is not all doom and gloom.
“We start with another shorter Mendelssohn work, Capriccio, which is a bit lighter,” she said.
“Then they play a couple of movements from Haydn's Sunrise quartet.
“After the main Mendelssohn quartet they finish with two beautiful tangos that have beautiful rhythmic drive and a suave sense of phrasing.
“It's a more up-beat way to finish what could otherwise be a bit of a traumatic program.”
Linda is as flautist who will be playing in the Hillls as part of the Commonwealth Society Orchestra's Windsong ensemble this October.
“The Little Music Room is a stunning place in a beautiful part of the Hills,” she said.
“It is the perfect place to convey the deeply raw and personal music of Felix Mendelssohn.”
Bronzewing is performing at the Little Music Room in Littlehampton from 3pm on June 2.
