The Peninsula Printmakers Group is a collaborative collective of artists based on the Mornington Peninsula, led and mentored by award-winning artist and master printmaker Billy Nye. The group fosters a supportive environment where members, many of whom began as Nye’s students, develop their own distinctive styles while focusing on traditional printmaking techniques like linocut.Billy Nye and Her Artistic VisionBilly Nye is a prominent Mornington Peninsula-based visual artist known for her vibrant, stylized portrayals of Australian suburban and coastal life.Aesthetic: Inspired by artists like Howard Arkley and Jeffrey Smart, her work celebrates the "paradise of domesticity," featuring everyday scenes like power lines, rooftops, and local beaches.Techniques: She primarily works in linocut, often hand-painting her prints with high-quality inks to ensure each piece in an edition has unique character.Local Muse: Her work is deeply rooted in her upbringing in Frankston and her life on the Mornington Peninsula, with iconic locations like Olivers Hill frequently appearing in her pieces.The Peninsula Printmakers GroupThe group serves as both a learning studio and a platform for professional exhibition.The Studio: Based at Nye’s home studio, Peninsula Printmakers Studio offers workshops for all skill levels, teaching participants to carve, ink, and print their own works."Walking Through Frankston": This major 2024 project, funded by a Frankston Artist Project Grant, featured 13 women from the group.
