Before you gasp…
Please consider what’s gone not only into each piece but the time it has taken to get it to market.
Market - 10am till 2pm - 4hrs
Set up - 7am till 10pm - 3hrs
Pack down - 2pm till 4pm - 2hrs
Cost of clay
Cost of glaze
Cost of stall
Drive to and from can be up to 2hrs.
Fuel costs
Cost of packaging.
Ask yourself how your electricity has gone up $$$ - mine too!!!
Taxes
Time to actually do the making and glazing, pricing and packaging.
Remember stall holders and makers are usually individual artists or small family businesses trying to earn a living - just like you.
But they put themselves out there and feel the full impact of a negative response to their goodies. It’s wonderful when people are positive and even if they don’t purchase something the positivity inspires you to go back to your studio and continue to make.
Nothing quashes your creativity like negativity from others.
Now this may put a few of side but…
We are not at markets to fill in your morning and to make a nice day out, to be the backdrop of your insta page. If you take photos please tag us, at least someone else might contact us and buy a little something. It seems that people have forgotten that we are the makers and when questioned or work is criticised we do take it personally - it is personal. At market there is no screen or filter to soften the blow.
So please be kind.
If you don’t like what you see or you can’t afford my product politely move away and if you must vent to your friend do it elsewhere 🫣
