✨✨BIG NEWS ✨✨
🧶 Back in 2021, Jodie from Mooroolbark Wool, approached the Celebrate Mooroolbark committee about taking on the Yarra Valley Wool and Handicrafts Show as it had become too big to manage as a private event. The committee enthusiastically agreed, Jodie joined the committee, and for 5 years we put the Woolshow on as a not-for-profit event, not just for the people of Mooroolbark, but also bringing yarn lovers from all over the state to Mooroolbark.
In 2023 we were a successful recipient of a Yarra Ranges Council grant for the woolshow, and grew it to include a local makers market, outdoor seating area and food trucks. The show continued to grow from there with 2026 being the biggest ever!
With growth, came strain on our volunteer committee, particularly the executive who had to oversee both events, and over the years we went from running both events over one weekend, to seperate weekends to try and mitigate volunteer burnout. Volunteering is down in general in the local community with people generally time poor and these events take a lot of time and effort to put on.
Jodie approached the committee again, suggesting this time, that the Woolshow has evolved into something bigger than our team can manage, and would benefit from becoming its own organisation where their new executive committee can focus solely on one event rather than juggling two.
So this brings us to goodbye, and we hand the reigns back to Jodie to begin the next chapter. We have enjoyed working with Jodie immensely over the past five years and are grateful for everything she’s done. Leaving with her is Emrita who came on board just two years ago and took on not only the Woolshow but also the 2025 festival marketing! Her vision has brought new ideas to the Woolshow and we know they’ll remain a great team who’ll continue to bring one of the states largest woolshows to Mooroolbark!
