Thank you to everyone who joined us at Ascot Vale Library last weekend to celebrate the launch of Circulation, a stunning new collection of public artworks by artist Olivia Chin.

The collection brings together a work from Olivia's exhibition 'Body Field', originally presented at Incinerator Gallery in early 2024, alongside three new works and a series of community-created cyanotypes developed in collaboration with local participants.

Installed on the library's second level, Circulation reflects a collaboration between more than 20 community members, Moonee Valley Libraries, and the Incinerator Gallery.

Squash like you’ve never seen it before!

Built for a sport once among the nation’s most loved games, the walls of the Essendon courts will be taken over by this breath-taking musical battle.

Dreamed up by Speak Percussion, Squashed is a unique, site-specific contemporary music performance.

Join Kaylie Melville (vibraphone), Marshall McGuire (harp), Maria Moles (drum kit) and Rohan Dasika (bass) - as they serve and volley, drive and boast, flam and strike, bow and pluck; reimagining a forgotten sport into a tournament for percussion and strings.

This event is part of Moonee Valley Council's Art in Surprising Places program.

Whether you are a beginner sketcher or advanced, all skills are welcome at our free monthly Gallery Sketchers session. Experimenting with texture will be the focus in June's session, happening this week. We will experiment with different ways to draw texture by incorporating various techniques in mark making, using a variety of pencils and tools.

The exhibitions currently on show at Incinerator Gallery are filled with textural inspiration from fabrics to metalwork, through to ceramics and photographs rich with natural textural elements.

All materials are provided but feel free to bring your own pencils too.

Thursday, 11 June, 10am.
Attendance is free, although we recommend booking via our website: https://incineratorgallery.com.au/activities/gallery-sketchers/

Last week, the sun came out to help us celebrate the launch of artist Edwina Green’s First Nations Playable Public Art Sculpture at its new permanent home along the Maribyrnong River.

The event was part of our Reconciliation Week event program and we had the privilege of hosting two local Wurundjeri Elders. Thanks to Colin Hunter Jnr Jnr who performed a beautiful Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony.

SES volunteers were also in attendance as special guests, to acknowledge their work and thank them for the vital support they provide to our community.

This project is funded by Victoria State Government's Emergency Recovery Hubs Grant and Moonee Valley City Council.

Mobile-making fun at last month's Arty Tales ✨

Last Friday’s Arty Tales saw our creative young participants (aged 3-5) and their carers make colourful, textural mobiles. Guided by our Barking Spider Creative educator, Laura, the children were led through a physical treasure hunt inside the room, exploring different textures, before starting on their bright, colourful artworks. Materials used were leaves, feathers, bubble wrap, shells and more.

Join us at our June session this Friday, 5 June at 9.30am.
