KOAL is an urgent, funny and deeply moving one-woman theatre show, shining a light on the realities of climate change.

Tickets available now via the link in our bio or at moonahartscentre.org.au.

Immersing the audience in the middle of the 2019 Australian bushfires, KOAL follows the stories of a baby koala, a coal miner and an Indigenous girl as they desperately strive to hold onto their homes. It blends comedy and masterful storytelling, taking the audience through laughter and tears as it explores what is lost when your home is erased.

Performed by co-creator, Jacinta Yelland — an acclaimed Australian theatre creator and performer, and a descendant of the Meriam Mer people of the Torres Strait Islands — KOAL will travel to Moonah Arts Centre this July, fresh from hit seasons at Theatre Works (Melbourne) and PhysFestNYC (New York City).

i, kitty’s confessional
by i, kitty

i, kitty’s ceramic dioramas draw inspiration from folk art, mythology, animation and gentle nana wisdom to create sculptures unashamedly sentimental to the artist. As part of the artistic process, it has become a deeply personal practice to embed written anecdotes within these sculptures — including confessions of guilt and shame. During the firing process, the anecdotes are burnt, releasing the artist from burden.

Following i, kitty’s example, visitors to this exhibition are invited to participate by writing down their own stories to submit, giving them an opportunity to let go of anything they may have been holding onto. The donated confessions can be placed inside a funerary jar to be high-fired after the exhibition, transforming them into part of the internal glaze.

Taste of Inspiration
A group show curated by Anna Mykhalchuk and Yuliia Hubarieva

Taste of Inspiration is an exhibition bringing together 25 Ukrainian artists (living within Ukraine and across the diaspora) to present a collection of artwork created in support of a broader wellbeing project, Rising Swallow.

Rising Swallow is a unique deck of cards, each offering a mindfulness activity drawing on both art and psychology to encourage emotional expression, reduce stress and support resilience.

Each card features the artwork of a different Ukrainian artist, using decorative Samchykivka designs – a form of folk art originating from the village of Samchyky in Ukraine. This exhibition presents large-scale versions of the artworks, offering a deeper insight into the creative process and the many ways art can support connection, healing and self-awareness.
