The ๐๐๐ฆ๐ง๐๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ข๐ ๐ฆ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ฆ is coming to Mooloolah Valley!!!
And... it will be MC'ed by our one and only Scriptless Theatre improv coordinator Kev Blair
Festival of Small Halls Spring Tour 2023 - Mooloolah, QLD, Kabi Kabi Country event is on Friday, 20 October 2023 at the Mooloolah Valley Public Hall which proudly stands on the traditional lands of the Kabi Kabi People.
Festival of Small Halls is a series of tours that takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists performing at two of our countryโs largest festivals, and sends them on the road to tiny halls in communities all over Australia.
It is produced by Woodfordia Inc. (yes the legends who bring you the Woodford Folk Festival each year) in partnership with many other wonderful Australian festivals, regional partners and great lovers and supporters of folk and contemporary acoustic music. This is an opportunity for music-lovers from welcoming communities to invite artists from Home and Abroad into their towns, and a way of exploring this vast country in the spirit of hospitality and great fun.
The featured performers for Friday 20th October are:
๐ผ ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฎ๐๐ โ Shane has folk music in his blood. Hailing from a long lineage of storytellers and musicians from Prince Edward Island, he is keeping the Maritime folk tradition alive with his honest and insightful compositions. From acclaimed folk festivals to the back rooms of Toronto cafes, Shane has cemented himself as one of Atlantic Canadaโs finest young folk troubadours.
๐ผ ๐ ๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐พ๐๐ฒ ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ โ Wielding a cello and strikingly crafted vocals, indie folk songwriter Monique Clare embodies the cathartic lyricism of Bjรถrk with the rhythmic energy of The Waifs. Driving rhythms collide with heart-tugging harmonies; compelling vocals are laced with intricate cello lines. Her disarmingly candid stage presence is born from years of touring the US, UK, Ireland and Canada with The Maes and playing cello for everyone from Kate Miller-Heidke to Eminem.
๐ผ Opening the evening with some pre-show entertainment will be local act ๐๐ป๐ท๐ฎ๐น๐ถ ๐๐ฒ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฑ!
Anjali is a Sunshine Coast based folk singing-songwriting chanteuse originally hailing from regional Victoria. A newcomer to the scene, she has recently been wowing audiences in both Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, gaining attention from well respected musicians in the area. Her voice has been compared to Joan Baez and Vashti Bunyan, and her music is flavoured with elements of traditional folk and folk revival, Celtic, and a little bit of country. The pure, mellow tone of her voice invites the audience into a space where the weary mind is both soothed and delighted.
ABOUT ๐ ๐ผ๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐ผ๐น๐ฎ๐ต ๐ฃ๐๐ฏ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ ๐๐ฎ๐น๐น
The Mooloolah Public Hall has been community-owned since it was first built 118 years ago and is thought to be the oldest community hall on the Sunshine Coast. The Hall was officially opened with a dance back in 1905 and the dancing will continue in 2023. The name โMooloolahโ comes from the local Kabi language and means โplace of black snakesโ. Like a black snake, the Mooloolah River winds its way around the coast from Mooloolah Valley, making its way to the sea at Mooloolaba.
We would LOVE you to join us for this night of fun and support the Spring tour, as it is a special treat to have it coming here to our little village!!
And it's going to be such FUN to see Kev putting his emcee hat back on again ๐
