Funding shortfall hits 2014 Lantern Parade
It is with regret that the River Rock To Mountain Top Community Festival committee must advise that the festival’s signature event, the Lantern Parade, will not be held in 2014. The costs involved in staging this event are significant and unfortunately we have been unsuccessful in securing sufficient funds through sponsorship and grant applications for the event to proceed. Over the past 7 years the festival has been very fortunate with funding and the committee is very optimistic that the event will run again in the future.
For the Lantern Parade – and therefore the Festival – to continue to receive sponsorship and grants, we need to show community support for not just the Lantern Parade but all the events which come under the Festival banner. The committee also needs revitalising to ensure that new events and ways of promoting the Festival are introduced. We are seeking community members to become involved in the planning and administration of the Festival. The level of community support will determine the future of our Festival.

The festival committee is pleased to announce that this years festival of events will be held over two weeks from the 3rd to the 16th of May. The program will again feature the iconic Tag -a - long ride and community lantern parade and will see a few new exciting sporting events added to the program. Dates for all main events are now posted on the event information page . The full program with all sub events and events details will be available in March.

Audiences have enjoyed "The Ruby Queen" at the Pinnacle Playhouse this weekend. Don't miss it next weekend Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon. Book at the Entertainment Centre or mackaytix website.

A huge thank you to everyone who braved the weather to come along to this years Lantern Parade. The rain stopped for a small amount of time and the students were able to parade their magnificent lanterns. The parade was stunning and it seemed a good night was had by all at the free concert after wards !! It’s so wonderful to be part of such a great community, it is community participation and support that makes events like this a success.

Don’t forget the ARTS AND CULTURE TRAIL that’s happening this weekend. All venues are indoors, making it a perfect way to spend a wet weekend!

NEWS FLASH !!!!!
Due to the possibility of a few light showers tomorrow evening a decision has been made to RELOCATE the LANTERN PARADE AND EVENING OF FREE ENTERTAINMENT TO THE MIRANI HIGH SCHOOL OVAL AND HALL!! Alice St Mirani. The forecast is for showers later on in the evening, so we are still going ahead with the parade, but do not want to risk the stage and electrical equipment getting wet later on. If you're coming out from town take the first right off the Mackay Eungella Rd, after the Kookaburra Store.
All the market and food stalls will still be there, the Lanterns are the biggest and best yet and there's a fantastic line up of entertainment. COME ALONG AND SUPPORT OUR GREAT COMMUNITY!
