Let's yarn with our youth 🖤

Thank you to everyone who came along to our recent Community Gathering about supporting our young people. Now we want to hear from the young people themselves.

We're holding a youth gathering where they can tell us what's working, what's missing, and what support they want to see in our region.

Parents, carers, aunties, uncles and Elders, please share this with the young people in your family and encourage them to come along and bring their mates.

You're welcome to come along with them too; we want everyone in our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to feel safe to speak and have their say. Every voice matters.

Representatives from other local organisations and community will be there to listen. There'll also be a feed provided.

The Community Gathering will bring local First Nations young people, families and community together for an evening of connection, creativity and fun, with live music, a silent disco, games, art activities and a free community dinner. While centred on our First Nations community, everyone is welcome.

Developed in response to recent violence towards First Nations young people and racial hate on social media, the gathering creates a positive space where young people and families can feel safe, supported, connected and valued. We know we cannot solve racism, but we can strengthen the things that support wellbeing: culture, family, community, connection and belonging.

We invite our whole community to come along, stand alongside our young people and families, share a meal, have a yarn and be part of creating a community where everyone feels they belong.

To help keep our young people safe, all young people must attend and leave with a responsible adult.

The Mildura Eisteddfod Society, Mallee Arts Colab and Iwan Soebardi’s Six String Surfing proudly present a FREE music workshop by renowned blues guitarist Nathan Cavaleri on Thursday 13th August at 6pm at the Mallee Arts Colab in Pine Avenue by renowned blues guitarist/singer Nathan Cavaleri in conjunction with his Arts Centre show Growing Pains ( Fri. 14th).

This is a FREE event and a "must-do " workshop for any musicians and other performers looking to conquer their fears, doubts and anxieties associated with performing - which we all go through! Many of you will have known Nathan as the little kid who was diagnosed with leukaemia at age 6 and made a wish to meet Dire Strait’s Mark Knopfler who discovered that Nathan was a guitar child prodigy. Soon Nathan was touring the US and the world with B. B. King, Bonnie Raitt , Jimmy Barnes and Diesel. But a few years later his global fame gave way to depression, burnout and anxiety, eventually forcing him to quit playing for years.

“What followed was a profound journey of self-discovery. Through years of personal growth, deep inner work and practical learning, Nathan developed powerful tools to better understand fear, anxiety and emotional wellbeing.”
Back to the workshop , which is titled “Beyond Fear and Anxiety”…

Students will leave with practical tools and a deeper understanding of themselves.

* Reduce shame around difficult emotions
* Build greater self-awareness
