Today I’m recording some piano and a bit of Hammond for the new Mix Sweetley album.
I’m using a Tul Omni on the sound board (under the piano), this will probably be the main mic, for my tastes, I am very partial to the sound from this part of the piano.
Above as an overhead and if need to add some brightness I have an AKG C1000s, it’s a pretty cool mic and it just happened to be out so it got the gig.
I’m going into Cubasis on my iPad via a Presonus Quantum ES2 and then I’ll export the takes into the main Cubase project in the studio proper.

Just started work on the new Sloppy Joe album we recorded here a few months back. It’s the OG line up: Jon Wheatley and Serg FatRabbit
As is our process we recorded just about everything live with our proprietary Spontaneous Composition technique, then I will mix, edit and add some overdubs to give texture, accents and augment melodies and riffs, unconventionally all at the same time. Finally after leaving it on the sill for about a week fine tune what I did and begin to master the final album as a whole.

So, I had a little jam with my brother Jon from Sloppy Joe a few months ago, it was just meant to be a test recording. I wanted test out the new control room treatment and try live drums and bass… then I also want s to test out the cheesy sample pads on my 80s Yamaha PSR-47… then I also thought maybe I could have some fun playing guitars through a seventies Sony cassette recorder… then I realised this is too funky to leave on the shelf.
Test run = Best fun!

23 years later and one of my most successful albums ever is now finally available for streaming on all major platforms!

Unda Da Hood was released in 2003, on my independent label Ensemble 770. It was a huge endeavour from the beginning to end and I am only now able to step back and feel genuine pride in what I accomplished.
It was made in a tiny little storage room in the back of our house at the turn of the century. I recorded it onto a Windows 98 PC using a cracked version of acid pro. There were many limitations faced due to budget and the available technology in the year 2001 but somehow with the help of very talented people around me, this album came to life and weaved it’s way into many other people’s lives.
It was released as a CD, and for a hot minute I had to deal with MGM distribution, it made it onto the radio, got some press and led to some amazing live shows at the basement and other venues.
It’s now available on all major streaming platforms on my new label Super Custom Sounds.
