An exceptional violinist Smt. T. Rukmini passed away at the age of 84 on 31 May 2020 in Southern India.
Below, find a clip of her playing a composition of Sri. Lalgudi G Jayaraman tuned in Raga Dwijavanti.

Bhairavi Raman on violin is joining Lakshmi's vocal recital.

Bhairavi Raman is trained in both Western Classical and South Indian Classical music. Her initial training was under Sri Murali Kumar and Sri Gopinath Iyer, she has pursued advanced mentorship in Chennai under leading Carnatic violinist, Sri S Varadarajan. She also holds an A.Mus.A in Violin from AMEB. She has fifteen years of performing experience across Australia and internationally. She has performed at prestigious music venues including at Madras Music Academy. Outside of performing, learning and teaching, Bhairavi works for a not-for-profit organisation called ‘Gamaka’, a platform for South Indian classical arts in Australia.

Our vocalist for the night Lakshmi Kumaraguruparan is coming from Sydney.

Lakshmi Kumaraguruparan is a disciple of Dr. Manjula Sriram. She has also trained under Lalgudi Smt. Padmavathy Anantagopalan, Kalaimamani. Srimushnam V Rajarao and Smt. Padma Chandilyan. Lakshmi was exposed to Carnatic Music by her grandmother, a descendent of Sri Muthuswamy Diksh*tar. Lakshmi is a graded artist in the All India Radio. She performs regularly in the December Music Season in Chennai at some of most prestigious venues including The Madras Music Academy. She has won the prized Tambura Awards from Indian Fine Arts Society Chennai and Tamil Isai Sangam. She holds a Masters of Music degree from the Madras University.

Introducing our wonderful Kuchipudi Danceus for the Classical Treat 2020...

Shyama Sasidharan is a performing artiste and a Dance & Yoga Teacher. She holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts from India and specialises in Kuchipudi dance. She has been a movement enthusiast and has learnt other Indian art forms which reflect in her dance dynamics. Shyama conducts regular dance classes in Melbourne through her venture Prakalpa Samskruti. She has worked at various educational institutions including the University of Melbourne.

Introducing our mrdangist Satheepan Elankumaran who will be accompanying the Flute recital.

Satheepan Elankumaran learnt mridangam under the guidance of Sri Yogaraja Kandasamy. Further, he received training from Late Sri Palghat S.Suresh in 2004 and 2006. At present, Satheepan is taking advanced training under the guidance of Sri Palghat TR Rajamani (Son of mrdangam doyen Late Sri. Palghat Mani Iyer).

Apart from mridangam playing, Satheepan also has a keen interest in Bharathanatyam. He not only has a remarkable sense and understanding of rhythm but also possess an expressive voice. Satheepan is an up and coming artiste in the field of Nattuvangam.

For the first segment of Flute recital, we will have Sughosh Seetharam joining with his violin .

Born in a musical family, Sughosh Seetharam belongs to the Rudrapatnam music lineage that has produced many eminent musicians so far. He continues to receive guidance from his mother Dr.R.N.Sreelatha and uncle R.N.Thyagarajan, elder of Rudrapatnam Brothers.

Sughosh has been performing as an accompanying and a solo violin artist for the last 15 years and is part of Australian music community since 2015.

We will be introducing our artistes featured in the Classical Treat 2020 one by one.

Our first segment will be:
A Flute recital by Subramanya Sastry along with Sughosh Seetharam on violin and Satheepan Elankumaran on mrdangam.

Subramanya will be blowing not just the flute, but also you away with his amazing flute music.

Subramanya Sastry began his initial learning under vidwan Sarvotham and later continued under various gurus vidwan Rajkamal and vidwan Ananthakrishna Sharma.

Subramanya has travelled across various countries including Mauritius, Egypt, Malaysia (for ICCR) and also performed across India.

He has been a recipient of numerous prestigious awards, one among them being awarded as the best instrumentalist by the ministry of cultural affairs (central Government- India).
