On Saturday 1 August 2026, enjoy an afternoon of wonderful 1920s jazz and a classic movie at Melbourne’s splendid Capitol Theatre!
The entertainment begins at 1:00 pm with fifty minutes of genuine 1920s jazz from the Capitol Theatre Orchestra, featuring lively tunes from the era.
After a short break, enjoy the 1971 classic film “Fiddler on the Roof” (G), 1971, starring Topol as Tevye and Norma Crane as Golde.
Tickets are great value at just $20 (Concession) – $25.50 (General Admission) and available at the link below, or at the Capitol Theatre door, 113 Swanston St Melbourne.

About "Fiddler on the Roof"
Set in the early 20th century in the fictional village of Anatevka in Imperial Russia, the film follows Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman, as he struggles to maintain his religious and cultural traditions while his three eldest daughters—Tzeitel, Hodel and Chava—seek to marry for love. As Tevye navigates the wishes of his daughters, the pressures of modern change, and growing political unrest, he must constantly balance faith, family, and the powerful pull of “Tradition”.

About the Capitol Theatre Orchestra
The twelve-piece Capitol Theatre Orchestra was re-established in November 2024 to celebrate the centenary of Walter Burley Griffin’s masterpiece, the Melbourne Capitol. In the 1920s, every notable theatre, hotel, and dance hall had an orchestra. Today, The Capitol continues this tradition with its magnificent 1920s theatre orchestra.

The Capitol Theatre Orchestra - Melbourne's finest vintage jazz orchestra, invite you and your friends to join us for an afternoon of music to celebrate the birthday of Louis Armstrong.
The orchestra will present an afternoon of classic music by Louis Armstrong - classics such as ‘Potato Head Blues’, Alexander’s Ragtime Band’, ’Shine’, ‘Ain't misbehavin’ and many more. Experience authentic swing, beloved classics, and the kind of vintage afternoon you have only dreamt of!
A century ago, every ballroom, theatre and dance hall in Melbourne had a resident jazz orchestra, and at this event you can step back in time with us. This music inspires dancing, toe-tapping or perhaps the opportunity to relax with a beverage and soak up the joyful atmosphere.
