LETS TALK ABOUT CONSENT
Trigger Warning: The following video contains footage of a infant/toddler undergoing a piercing procedure.
Our piercer, Joey AKA Black Circle Piercing shares his thoughts on these procedures and consent. Our intention is not to judge or shame anyone, or the people in the video, but instead to educate.
Consent is an important part of the process of what we do in tattoo and piercing. At Renegade Art Society, our minimum age for basic lobe piercing is 6 years of age. It's important that children (and thier parents/guardians) are aware of the procedure they are about to undergo, and to be able to consent to having it done on them.
Communication is important, here. We will always ask the children if they are aware of what will be done, and if they are OK with it.
We will sit with them and ask if they understand that they will h
Be pierced with a needle, and ask if this is what they want, and allow them to ask any questions they may have.
Importantly, if they decide to not go ahead with the piercing, either before or during the procedure, we will completely support them.
We believe that not only must consent be given (morally and legally), but it can also be taken back; and this is completely OK!
