“We are Moon Shadow Studio”
Over the past year, we have been busy weaving stories through the art of shadow puppetry. From touring Kiki and Zuki across eight venues in VIC and NSW in 2025, to our upcoming digital commission, 20 Years Later, launching at the Melbourne Museum in April 2026—it has been an incredible journey.
We are also proud to share that the Banyule City Council - Arts and culture project grants is supporting the development of our newest project: a story of a father and daughter fish traveling across two oceans, reflecting our own migrant journeys.
To mark this new chapter, we are officially joining forces as Moon Shadow Studio.
As a young collective, we want to acknowledge the immense support we have received from all corners of the art community - collaborators, organisations, councils and local community. We hope to see you at upcoming events and festivals, and we wish you a creative and wonderful year ahead.
Thank you for being part of our story!
Best wishes,
Youbi Lee &
Taka Takiguchi

Moon Shadow Studio’s mission is to
make a cultural, layered and immersive storytelling space for children everywhere. Blending our personal narratives with the power of shadow puppetry, our work gives children and grown-ups opportunities to share untold stories and start vital conversations across generations.
—
Our goals are
> To share migration stories, blending personal narratives with the broader migrant experience.
> To promote intergenerational conversations through important, yet often sensitive topics.
> To increase the visibility of ESL artists within the Australian art and puppetry industry.
> To stimulate the audience’s imagination through tactile and powerful effects of light and shadow.
> To employ poetic and ambient eastern aesthetics (Japanese concept of Ma, Haiku, poetry etc) to create space for reflection and dynamic stillness.
