The festival is a primary pillar in the SalamFest movement, which embodies our key values of peace, love and compassion. SalamFest is an evidence based, innovative response to issues and challenges in Victoria. Proud finalists of the Melbourne Award 2019 and winners of 2021 Victorian Government's "Excellence in Arts" award", SalamFest began as an annual cultural event showcasing the breadth of Mus
lim arts, culture, food and spiritual traditions in Melbourne as a creative response to Islamophobia. Muslims first came to Australia in the 1700s bringing with them a rich cultural heritage which weaved into the Australian tapestry. Growing from strength to strength, SalamFest began organising events for Victorians throughout the year, collaborating and partnering with organisations to bring important social discourse to the fore through creative vehicles. These collaborations allow for further engagement with diverse Victorian communities and cross-organisational capacity building. The festival has become a primary pillar in the SalamFest movement. The SalamFest movement embodies key values of peace, love and compassion by inviting the wider Victorian and Australian community to share in our culture and traditions. To break bread with us and to pray with us. We celebrate our various traditions including Whirling Dervish, Sufi Singing, Rumiโs Recitals, Contemporary Sufi Dances, Fusion Instrumentals, Films and much more. SalamFest has also attracted worlds best artists including Abida Parveen, Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad belonging to the 700 year old qawwali tradition, Mesut Kurtis, Muhammad Yousseff etc. The Islamic culture and traditions are based on the universal values of love and compassion promoting peace, unity and equality. SalamFest showcases the beauty and diversity of multicultural Victoria. The events bring together Muslim visual and performing arts developed over the centuries. Please visit us on the web at:
