NEW SINGLE!

Sometimes the best collaborations come around when no-one is asking for them. Then again, is the best art made under duress of expectation anyway?

Fo those who don’t know Davey, he is a recent ARIA Hall Of Fame inductee for his work playing guitar with his beloved You Am I. He also makes largely unpopular weirdo depresso-pop music under his own name, which is why you are reading this right now.

Nitida is best known for being 50% of the pop duo on the rise to stardom, Don’t Thank Me, S***k Me! Or maybe you saw her show-ponying clad head-to-toe in Sherrin red Edgeley on telly with at the MCG for the AFL Grand Final? Or perhaps you know her from her cult one-woman Elton John singalong residency “Beltin’ Elton” at the ? Or maybe you don’t know her at all? A fashion icon, a force of life and a guaranteed good time. Nitida is a naturally charming and vivacious performer and songwriting powerhouse.

An Absent Lover is a psych-disco psychodrama that’s out and done in just over 4 minutes. Hitherto unchartered terrain for both Davey and Nitida and designed to elicit unbridled, ecstatic enthusiasm and terror.

Davey is on tour supporting throughout April as well as appearing at and with on April 25.

Nitida is also on tour through April and May with as they support on their “Ultra Dundee” tour.

CATCH O’ THE DAY!
As well as spending more than 25 years as “the new guy” in Oz rock legends You Am I (and also fronting Melbourne rockers The Pictures), inimitable guitar icon Davey Lane has also been running a concurrent solo career which is now six albums deep with the recent release of ‘Finally, A Party Record’ (out through the fine folks at Cheersquad)! Even Lane concedes that the title is heavily ironic as there are some serious themes explored throughout the musically upbeat collection - the great Rhythms magazine called it “another bold chapter in a career defined by versatility and craftsmanship” - and we have copies on limited edition opaque red/yellow split vinyl, so put on those dancing shoes and get ready to party Davey Lane-style!

Can ya believe it’s time for ARC to do another lap round the land? Well we can - strap yourselves in and be our esteemed guests as we set the controls for the heart of the sunny Californian state, the spirit of ’76 and one of the greatest selling albums of all time - The Eagles’ Hotel California.

It’s incredibly precise and loose, fast and easy (seemingly) - we’re not shy of challenging ourselves and this could be the most challenging yet. We’ll follow the album with a second set of chock-a-block wall-to-wall smash hits from the Eagles with a wee smattering of solo tunes. This does not mean under ANY circumstance The Heat Is On. I might even follow my hero Joe Walsh’s lead and grow a wonderful moustache especially for the occasion. Join us.

KNUCKLEHEADS RIDE AGAIN! The Pictures group rarely get a spin around the block (selective appeal and lack of advertising funds) - but Friday evening we reemerge in support of at musicland in Fawkner. I’m hoping it’s the same place Queen recorded their albums but we’ll find out.
The last time we supported them, would ya believe, was 23 years ago (pictured). What happened to these lil pups?!? Probably living a whole other stretch of life is what.
Anyhoo, swipe for snappy of us last night - what’s changed? Luke is playing thunderously and singing better than he ever has, (behind the lens) with his time ‘Mothering is more masterful than ever in control of making a drum kit seem wildly out of control than he ever has, and I’m playing a more reliable guitar than I did 23 years ago, so there’s that…
We’ll play a smorgasbord of our misses and a cover too. I’m not gonna tell you what it is you’ll just have to turn up and see ok?

I first saw Augie March play when I was not long 18 - it was my first night out on the town with dear Timothy and the state I left his spare mattress in the next morning after naively getting enthusiastic with the Marker’s Mark (“what a great drink!”/“to be fair it is quite moreish” etc) is another story for another time, but Augie March blew me away and since then we’ve been on tour together and shared many hours in band rooms, laffin mostly - how is it that a band gets more and more beguiling and gut-wrenchingly beautiful as time marches? I cannot provide those answers but seeing Augie March live may provide your own insights.
If one may be a wee bit shellfish, it’s always been a lil dream of mine to go on  tour supporting a band playing me songs. It’s an honour to (hopefully sufficiently) warm YOU up for them before I join you in luxuriating in the incredible song/stage craft of the Marchmen as they mark the anniversary of the majesty of thee Moo. I cannot thank them enough for letting me ride with them. It’ll be joyous. Join us in the joyousness! Links in the thingys.

GOLD LOGIES FOR MY BOIZ!

You Am I’s music changed my life long before they became part of it as humans and changed it all over again. I have a lot of feelings that are only for they and I to share but I love this band so so much and proud to have been a lil part of it for the last 52 years and counting. I can’t even begin to scratch the surface of my gratitude to them for giving my life a rudder and teaching me how to love and laugh.

I lobbied for us to play a 40 minute set of my favourite YAI deep cuts and b-sides at the ceremony, even though my plans were thwarted it was super fun to play a sweet Heart/Chair double shot at the end of the night.
