SEEKING DIRECTOR- PROFIT SHARE
We are seeking a bold, actor driven director to lead the staging of a powerful new original Australian play scheduled for a two week season in the last two weeks of September at Meat Market Stables, North Melbourne. This is a creatively ambitious, text rich ensemble work built around justice, bias, forgiveness and moral responsibility. The play unfolds like a jury deliberation and culminates in a live audience verdict, where each audience becomes the jury and determines the outcome of the central characterβs fate each night. This is a rare opportunity to shape a production that is theatrically inventive, socially sharp and performance led.
We are looking for a director who:
β’ Loves working closely with actors and psychological detail
β’ Is excited by layered ensemble storytelling
β’ Can shape tension, humour and confrontation in the same frame
β’ Enjoys morally complex material
β’ Is confident with minimalist staging and high performance focus
β’ Is interested in audience interaction and immersive theatrical devices
β’ Wants to collaborate with the writer and creative team in refinement and rehearsal
About the production:
β’ Original full length script
β’ Multicultural casting and thematic lens
β’ Strong central roles and ensemble arcs
β’ High tension jury framework
β’ Audience verdict ending built into the staging
β’ Minimal set, actor and rhythm driven
β’ Confirmed venue and September performance season
β’ Two week run at Meat Market Stables
This is a profit share production with an experienced producing and creative team behind it. We are looking for a director who wants meaningful material, artistic ownership and a show that will generate real audience discussion.
If you are drawn to theatre that asks difficult questions and puts the audience inside the moral decision, we would love to hear from you.
Please send a short expression of interest outlining your directing experience and why this project speaks to you to [email protected].
