I’ve been part of a group organising a fundraising campaign spearheaded by two incredibly inspiring women from Sydney’s Palestinian community who are working round the clock to settle in newly arrived families fleeing the destruction in Gaza.

Suzan Wahab and Mago Shaheen (pictured in slide 2 with my good friend ) have been raising funds to meet the accommodation costs for a number of families who have arrived here on visitor visas with virtually nothing, and without access to support of any kind.

To date, Suzan & Mago have secured housing for 9 families (raising and paying 6 months rent up front), enrolled their kids in schools, and fully furnished their accommodation through donation drives. All of this is happening through their tireless commitment together with others in their community, however without entitlement to any support and precluded from working until their bridging visas are issued, it’s a massive task to settle these families. Grass roots community organizations like theirs who are involved in this undertaking are completely overwhelmed.

More than 200 Palestinians have arrived into NSW and more families are continuing to come. Suzan & Margo want to raise more funds through this campaign to house them and allow them to find their feet.

We’re all feeling the anxiety, shock and also helplessness as we witness the bloodshed and humanitarian crisis continuing in Gaza in front of our very eyes. This is one very effective and simple way you can take some action which provides immediate & tangible help to some of the people who have been directly affected.

The Housing Gazan Arrivals fundraiser is open now on GoFundMe and the initial target is $130k. Link in my bio.

Please join me and make any donation you can handle, it takes 5 minutes. Even $10 or $20 will make a real difference to some families and children who have been through so much. I’ll keep you updated with progress and where our money is going in my stories. Please if you can, share this around & let people know.

Thanks 🙏🏽🙌🏼❤️ Link in my bio☝🏼

Our documentary Freedom Is Beautiful is now streaming exclusively on

For those who didn’t have the chance to view it at the Sydney and Melbourne Film Festivals, it’s now available for everyone. We’re so proud to bring the story of Australia’s heinous two decade long, offshore detention regime to you through the eyes of two of the most amazing & inspirational people I know and 💛

Despite the cruelty of their ordeal, both men used art & music to engage in resistance against the system, fight for justice and never lost their sense humanity or compromised their message of love.

It’s a crucially important & transformative story for our country

This Archibald Prize finalist work I painted of the incredible singer songwriter is going up for auction this Friday night, 20th October at the gala dinner at

I always loved this painting of Abbe & planned to never let it go but KYUP! are a fantastic non-profit organization working hard at the grassroots level to break the cycle of domestic and family violence & I’m proud to support them.

It’s going to be a huge night at the Sydney Town Hall on Friday with the works of a bunch incredible Australian artists up for grabs. One of those good people attending will end up with one of the favourite Archie portraits I ever made, knowing they’ve also made a meaningful contribution to a vitally important cause. Win Win 🙌🏼

One of the things I constantly keep coming back to with this referendum is just how modest what we’re being invited to vote YES to by the overwhelming majority of our First Nations people actually is.

Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as our first peoples.

The creation of an independent First Nations advisory body called the Voice whose advice is non-binding. Yes, the parliament of the day has to listen to the Voice, but it retains all the power to ignore what is said if they choose.

That’s it. So simple.

There’s every reason to imagine a scenario where our First Nations people presented a referendum question that asked for something much more substantial and complex than this. Something that had implications that would genuinely create a need for deeper debate.

But that’s not what happened. Instead, we’ve been extended this simple, pragmatic & gracious invitation, delivered in good faith: an outstretched hand for all of us to take a very small step in the right direction together and stop kicking this issue down the road, pretending there’s nothing we need to confront as a country and that everything is ok.

I think we should grasp this gratefully with both hands without hesitation and feel proud about writing yes on that page. I’ve always maintained my faith in the basic decency and compassion of Australian people. There’s been so much noise and vitriol thrown around during this referendum campaign, and I know it has hurt many people. But I still believe in the inherent awareness of people to understand the power of lifting each other up and the irrepressible value we always feel in creating connection with each other. That’s what the Voice looks like to me; an opportunity for meaningful connection and finding a better way forward.

YES is easy, it’s solidarity. YES costs us nothing but is full of possibilities.

No is just a void.

What a mind-blowing journey we’ve had together bringing our film to life & sharing it with the world. I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. To be awarded Best Australian Documentary at the amongst so many strong contenders is special for everyone who worked on the project but particularly for the film’s 3 DASHING executive producers 🙌🏼

Next up, with your support, we’re going to use the stories of Moz and Farhad to bring about real change in the way those seeking asylum are supported and lifted up in this country. Stay tuned!! Remember
