We are always just a bit surprised by how sturdy a construction of rope and thread can be. It is all about building slowly, bit by bit, each segment stitched with meditative intent to create a complex of textured colour. So very fun to make, and what a soothing thing to do with restless hands. (also, reminder that it's not too late to join us this Saturday to make one of these!)

Get any last-minute Mother's Day plans sorted with this thougthful class.

Scent is the sense most strongly associated with memory, and the fragrance you wear is a feeling you carry with you everywhere you go. Select your top, mid, and base notes from a wide range of naturally sourced essential oils, then let perfumer Penelope guide you through the necessary steps of balancing and mixing your fragrance. Participants will create 10ml of their signature scent to take home in a sleek, stylish spray bottle.

Our glass bead classes are back! These workshops are a great introduction to the art of lampworking, which is a type of glasswork that does not require a furnace or bellows - so it's a lot safer and easier to begin with. You'll learn to shape beads into a square, bicone or round shapes, then decorate the surface with dots, drizzle and frit. We have three classes coming up in April, May and July.

Shibori is the Japanese word for a variety of ways to resist-dye textiles. This Japanese technique dates back to the 8th century. Traditionally, a white cloth (usually silk, hemp, or cotton) was folded, bunched, or twisted, then tied, and finally dipped into a natural indigo dye. There are countless ways to create the effect. Each one results in a different design, with no two dyed pieces coming out the same.

Quite a few of you have been asking us lately about our shibori workshops, as we haven't held any since moving into the new space in the CBD. And quite a few of you will be pleasantly surprised....

Is this an announcement post? Perhaps we shall see... 😇

Screen printing is easily one of the most useful skills to have in your creative arsenal, and it has been Roze's bread-and-butter for many years now - so it's safe to say she's one of the best to learn from. We'll help you in this workshop all the way from the design stage, to creating your stencil, and finally to the transfer of pigments onto the final medium. (You can also BYO material so long as it's 100% cotton, or a similar organic material)

Here's a fun challenge that plays on the last two of the three Rs of waste: try to find a way to reuse every item at least once before deciding to toss it.

Before you know it, almost every object you look at is schematically transformed from mere 'waste' to a potential material for creating something more. Imagine as well being transported to pre-industrial times, and how differently you would perceive a shiny, colourful coffee pod such as these. This shift in perspective is Barb's area of expertise, and her work is testament to how easy it is to create when you are surrounded by all the building blocks you need.

Funky textile vessels like these make any space fun. Using coiled rope as a structural basis, experiment with different colours and materials to create something truly unique and lovely for storing all manner of things, or to hug your favourite pot plant. We'll be making these with Barb next weekend for those wanting to join in on the fun.

Collage has an incredible history of expression: it is limitless, political, subversive, and above all it is all-encompassing, stringing together threads of infinite media and telling a story through composition.

It's this precise balance of medium, composition, and expression that Kelly knows best, and she's delighted to share all her secrets to masterful collage. 🧑‍🎨

Saturday 2nd April is our next class (just over a week away!) where you'll get to play and experiment with a wealth of materials over nibbles & drinks.

Have you ever heard the term "doomscrolling"?

It's kind of what it sounds like: a tendency we've unconsciously developed in this social media age, where we spend just a little too long anxiously flicking our thumbs over our screens and absorbing a seemingly endless stream of collective panic and negative news. (whether or not this is a habit imparted on us by design - media is big business after all! - is a conversation for another time)

The best way to disrupt these habits is to find new ways to stimulate ourselves, to slow down and ground ourselves with things that are tangible, tactile, and connected to the world that's directly in front of us.

Art and wellbeing are inherently connected. Exercising your creative muscles is like a full-brain workout, but also one that forces you to slow down, to step away from the chaos, and to remind you of the things that you are in control of. It's not that phones, social media, or the internet are at all a bad thing - but it's all too easy to lose some autonomy to their apparent convenience.

If you're finding it difficult to motivate yourself to break the cycle, that's precisely what we're here for. Our workshops are the ideal environment to experience real human connection, and to experience the wonderful satisfaction of learning a new skill with which you can create something beautiful.

We just did a little stocktake and discovered that we still have one of these butter bells lying around!

Any good foodie knows by now the virtues of room temperature butter, from its behaviour in baked goods, to how much yummier it is on your toast. Store yours safely in this elegant butter bell (or French butter crock, whatever your nomenclature of choice) by Melbourne based ceramicist Adele Macer. Completely functional with an airtight sealed base for topping up the water. Available for purchase via our website.

We are very proud to be a studio by women, for women. Although all are welcome through the Guild’s doors, we’d be remiss not to acknowledge that it’s largely women in our little community, and that the mutual support & encouragement of women that we foster is anything but unintentional.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed sometimes by the challenges that continue to face us as women. That’s why it’s important to recognise women as resilient actors of progress, change, and of course, creativity; whether we’re marching in the streets or taking time to nurture ourselves and out talents, we all play an important role in resistance & creation. Happy International Women’s Day ✊

Our Story

In the not so distant past we were able to explore and engage in a creative space within the boundaries of our domestic environment. More recently with the advent of mass produced furnishings and readily available home décor, coupled with a trend toward apartment living and the rise of the dual income family then this space for the creative endeavour within the domestic sphere has all but disappeared.

In recognition of this the Guild of Objects is a space that supports and holds space for all to pursue, source or explore their own innate creativity.

The Guild provides a space for artists, craftspeople and makers to sell their products. The Guild runs workshops in a beautiful home like environment that give everyone the opportunity to explore their own creativity and finally the Guild organises and runs design, craft and art tours to Japan, Bali and France in order to provide a forum to explore the world though a creative lens.

The Guild is a space that honours the notion of Connection through Creativity. Connections with ones creativity, connection with ones self and connection to others through mutual pursuit.
