A little exciting news 💜

I’m incredibly honoured to share that I’ll be stepping into the role of Lead Trainer at KICStudio in November (after the concert!)😂

This opportunity feels like such a beautiful coming together of every chapter of my journey… Dance, Fitness, Yoga, Pilates, Holistic counselling, Nutrition and somatic movement.

KICStudio | Movement and breathwork has become such a special part of my life.

I’ve loved the opportunity to keep learning and growing as a teacher, working alongside an incredible team and experiencing what it’s like to be an employee again after so many years of running my own business.

Please be reassured, I’m not going anywhere! 💜

The Dance Centre is my home. It’s the community I’ve built, the students and families I love and such a huge part of who I am.

For so long, dance has been at the heart of everything I do.
I feel so incredibly lucky to now share my week between two studios I love, doing work that lights me up in different ways.

Thank you to those who believed in me and for the reminder to say yes to the things that light you up even when they scare you.

Fifteen years 💜

It’s hard to believe that something I started because my firstborn wanted to dance has grown into what The Dance Centre is today.

What began as a hired community space and a handful of students has become so much more than a dance school.

There’s a lot of sacrifice behind keeping a small business going. The long unpaid hours. The financial pressure. The rising costs. A pandemic. All the moments people don’t see, that make you question how you keep doing it.

Yesterday in an interview I was asked why I keep going, my answer is always the same.

The students.
Our teachers
The families. The community.

I simply couldn’t walk away from that. I can’t imagine my world without seeing the community each day. Being there through all the seasons of their lives.

After 27 years of teaching, I’m now lucky enough to be teaching the children of students I once taught. That feels pretty surreal and special. The cycle continues 🥹

Teaching has never been just about dance for me.

If I can share a little fitness, confidence, resilience, mindset, health and life wisdom along the way and in some small part help others believe in themselves and feel ready to go out into the world and create a life they love, then that’s my why.

Fifteen years.

Thank you to every student, every family and every teacher who has been part of this story.

You are the reason the purple doors remain open 💜

It’s usually around 9:15pm when the studios empty.
The students have gone home. The teachers have left and this is where you will often find me… sweeping the floors.

Could I hire someone to do it? Probably.
But there’s something very humbling about doing it yourself.

For me, sweeping these floors has become a little ritual. It gives me a moment to reflect on all the incredible people who have walked through these doors. The students I’ve taught. The families I’ve connected with. The laughter and memories shared.

It also gives me a chance to notice what needs fixing, repairing or maintaining and if I’m being completely honest, there’s a little bit of OCD satisfaction in knowing I’m leaving the studios clean and ready for the next day 😂

More importantly, I hope my students (and my daughters!) notice. No matter who you are, you are never too important to do the basic things.

Some of my greatest growth as a business owner has come from doing things myself.
For years, I was told to delegate. Outsource. Hire people. Pass the jobs on.

Financially, I simply couldn’t but looking back, I think that was one of the greatest gifts.

Doing everything myself meant I learnt every facet of the business. I learnt what actually goes into making everything work. 15 years later as I slowly begin to delegate and share the load, I understand what I’m asking someone else to do.

It taught me the job but it also taught me humility.
I think that lesson applies far beyond business.

I see it in dance all the time.

Students want the hardest choreography.
The biggest tricks.
The front row.
To be the best.

Sometimes in our rush to get to the top, we forget the importance of the steps underneath us.

One small step.
One foundation.
One level.
One skill.
One day at a time.

The basics aren’t beneath you. They are what build you. Please read that again students.

So please take your time.
Learn properly.
Do the jobs/ basics others might overlook.
Be willing to start at the beginning, again and again.

The goal isn’t simply to get to the top.

It’s who you become along the way.

Stay curious.
Stay grounded.
Stay humble.

Please never, ever be too good for the basics 💜

Today, a few little people reminded me exactly why I love what I do 💜

You don’t always realise the impact you’re having when you’re simply showing up and doing your ‘job’.

You teach the class. You listen to their unfiltered stories 😂 You encourage them. You have fun.

A parent asked me today, “Where do you get all the energy and patience to teach children 6 days a week?”

The truth is… I just love it.
Children have open hearts and big dreams. I love their honesty, their imagination, their joy and the way they feel EVERYTHING so deeply.

Their positive energy is contagious.

I might be the teacher in the room but I learn from them every single day.

Honestly couldn’t imagine life without teaching.

Such a privilege to be someone’s safe place, someone they look forward to seeing each week and a tiny part of the childhood they’ll one day remember 🥹💜

✨ Pinch me moment ✨

I still can’t believe this happened today.

I’ve been accepted into The Class NYC Somatic Education program on a FULL TUITION FELLOWSHIP 🥹😭

Never in a million lifetimes did I think I’d be chosen. I’m all the way over here in Melbourne and the program is in New York, which makes it so surreal.

No I’m not moving to NYC 😂 Thank goodness for Zoom 🥰
I can do all training from home or my studio.

This is not another certification. It will become a life practice.
