How disheartening you’ve allowed a non-Aboriginal person to enter OUR art and be selected as a runner up (you put our flag upside down by the way Zino), but you’ve also made a winner “inspired” by Aboriginal people and using the sacred cultural practice of identifying face paint.
You could’ve just picked an Aboriginal artist, or just not pick a European using cultural art and not have it there at all.

Call back to a past project.
The Bunjiyl sculpture I did with Andre Sardone for Spring Gully Kinder was such an eye opener to the sculpture making experience.
I did things I never thought I’d do, and the sculpture turned out beautifully.

Here is the maquette Andre made before we got into the big guy. Still can’t believe this was six years ago!

Expressions of interest are open for the Deadly Fringe x Fed Square Public Art Commission 2026, which provides funding to First Nations artists to develop and deliver a participatory public artwork of scale that will be centred at the heart of the 2026 Melbourne Fringe Curated Program at Fed Square.
