Thank you and .i.ankur for facilitating the best retreat I've ever attended. I expiriences some of the most important moments of my life during the week both purely at a personal level and in terms of moments I shared with my mother.

I am very excited that adland tours is teaming up with Karly to create a Bali tour in 2025 featuring a week with Prianca as well as other exciting delights

Keep your eye or probably better your ears peeled for an exciting interview with Richard Watts on smart amsrt arts this Thursday July 25 -

Approx 910am on RRR - Catherine Blickling will be talk about the upcoming Malthouse season and how we are going to try to shatter the 4th wall and any pretence about Shakespeare and Greek tragedy

We are determined to see if we can appeal to not only to those who already love Oedipus, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and Of Mice and Men but also to those who don't think of themselves as theatre people.

I truely believe that if we take responsibility of enhancing with our audiences and just telling good stories well rather than promoting the idea of the cannon and high arts theatre would be more accessible for all and art would be better for it

Tune in on Thursday morning and come to the shows - we even have tickets available for those who can't pay

So please come give it a go and be honest with us as to if we were about to change your mind

Theatre could be for all pic has nothing to do with this post but I haven't painted for ages so here is a pic lol

So people

In the middle of this Bali retreat I magically found the time to finally get most of the event links up for the Adland Tours 2025 offerings

The is not yet complete because there is yet to be a Tour to Tierra Del Fuego from Nov 29 through Dec 5

And I'm pretty sure that I'm Gunna find a way to get up a Bali tour including a retreat like the one I'm on right now led by Prianca Shharma, Ankur Gupta.

But here is what's on offer already

Can you do me a tiny fav - have a read and be interested in helping me take people on life changing Journeys.

And for right now just a wee thanks to my mum Michele Adler for being my super hero and letting me be here. Without her and Rod McMillan's work over the last 25 years I would not have this chance to take people to the extraordinary places I will be taking them for the rest of my life till my body won't let me

Life shines so bright - whatever journey you are on take it now - don't wait till you can

Half way into the retreat with Prianca Shharma I'm increasingly clear I want to do this again.

Who would be interested if Adland Tours was to run a trip to Bali maybe 12-16 days ish featuring an amazing yoga and meditation retreat and a bit of island hopping, and other fun stuff.

A bit more about the retreat which really would be the feature.

I mean for starters take one look at the smile on Priancs ~ the kindness that radiates out of her is palpable but maybe I'm biased. But maybe I'm not - me mum I think I could say without being harsh was a bit sceptical - her opening statement for why she came is that her son told her she needs to slow down - and it's true I did say that but I think she would now testify that she has really gotten something out of it. We have share tears and hugs together that I won't forget as long I live. And no surprise here but mum has made it through 4 days of pretty hardcore Yoga. Check out the pic of Michele Adler sitting still in meditation before our water cleansing ceremony.

Michele Adler how would you describe you experience here.

Ruth one of the intrepid adland crew has also been doing amazingly well and keeping up like a champ. Neither of them have missed a class yet. Ruth Lazarus id love to hear what you have to say about your experience. Nice pics this morning of Ruth and Prianca chatting before this mornings class.

And last but not least a lovely wee pic of me and Ankor our bresthwork facilitator also before the water ceremony.

Who's interested to discuss the idea of coming in 2025?

And now for some stuff that is very close to my heart

I've been creating a series of programs at the Malthouse with the goal of making classics more accessible.

Let's find away to stop looking down on those who say I don't get Shakespeare or Greek Drama and making excuses for our art by defending the idea that they aren't educated enough to get it.

If certain portions of society are not into art that's not because they don't get it but because artists have given up on being responsible for connecting with these folks

Let's find ways to bring people who think I'm not a theatre person and I'd never go to the Malthouse into the game.

It's a big goal but one that's already happening. In March this year we staged the first of these programs and now in Aug and Sept we are back with a whole lot more.

The first offer is on Aug 1, 2 and 3.

We will be doing a workshop and short performance of our production of Oedipus.

The format is very low-fi. No set, no lights, no curtains or back stage just straight up raw story telling.

You arrive - the team of actors and one musician are all there to welcome you.

We aren't going to start with a dramatic dimming of the lights and then the show - no we are going to start by saying h - Introducing you to the play - showing a few scenes the way we work on them in rehearsals to explore different ideas and talking about what's working for you.

Even if you don't get every word, if drama is being done well and you feel empowered you will know if what you saw made sense - and if you found it interesting

After about 40min of exploring the play and key themes we will jump into a 1h condensed performance - with what I can proudly say are some s**t hot actors. After the performance we go back to QnA with the team and hopefully if there is an open bar near by you will join us and them for a drink after.

PS I have the privilege of facilitating the pre and post show fun but you won't be seeing me on stage till we get to Romeo and Juliet at the end of the month. In between we will Squeeze in Big Mac even with his dagger.

I've seen a lot of performances of Oedipus over the years and I can honestly no company I've ever seen do this play has made the tradgedy real.

Oedipus has always been so annoying that I honestly just want him to die but this production is different. It's the first time I've ever felt empathy for Eddy. No matter how yuck a human he is - no one deserves to suffer like he does.

Paul Robertson delivers a truely powerful performance as Oedipus. Marry his work with Helene Dunlop as Jocasta, Phil Roberts asTiresius, and Pat Dare as the Sheppard as well as these three making up the chorus and then throw a musical genius like Damian Pitcon into the mix and you get a production that's ready to blow harder than Pompeii.

Ticket link for the Saturday Aug 3 show PM comments.

If you want to attend the matinee performances on Aug 1, or Aug 2 send me airect message and I'll find a way to squeeze U in. Matinees are aimed at schools but we are happy to fill up the few remaining seats with adults.

Also if cashola is what might stop you from coming DM me and I'll try to get you a subsidised ticket for one ofe matinees - get in fast community access tickets supported by our Sponsor Adland Tours are going to be in demand and will get snapped up quick.

Thanks for reading and hope to see ya atheolf Malty

I'm just a wee bit excited that our Adland Tours sponsor banners have arrived. Thank you Adland Michele Adler and Rod McMillan for your ongoing support of Eagle's Nest theatre, helpikg us and other arts projects take people on soul journies.

The banners went out to a school for the first time on Monday with Paul Robertson Helene Dunlop Pat Dare and Phil Roberts. On August 3 you can see their performance of Oedipus (wh)Y X with special guest Damian Pitcon on the music in the next installment of our Malthouse programs.

Just a note on all things Malthouse - the banners will be appearing there again when we be do workshop / performance version of Macbeth with Paul, Helene and Aiden Seanchaidh and on Aug 24 and for a similar Stab at R & J with me Claire Riverland and Callum O'Mara on Aug 31

The Last event planned thus far for Eagle's Nest at the Malthouse is on Sept 5 matinee and Sept 7 for a project that is very close to my heart. This will be a presentation of scenes from Steinbeck's masterpiece of Mice and Men combined with an exploration of Men's Mental health and life in the arts. For this one you will find Robert Reid joining me, Paul and Phil with other cast members/pannelists still TBA

And then to finish up the year I'll be heading off on tour to South America first to meet Celeste Novion for some bike riding and then to guide the Galápagos Revealed 2024 tour with Jessica Hackett (PS this tour still has a few seats up for grabs - does your bum belong on one of them?)

I can't wait till Adland takes our first schools tour. I'm guessing it won't be till 2026 but for now remember we are already taking bookings for 2025 for Cusco, Machu Picchu and The Sacred Vally 2025 and Picture Perfect Patagonia 2025 as well as Galapagos 2025, Antarctica 2025, and the Amazon 2025.

I don't have FB events for Gal25, Ant2025 or Amaz2025 but head over to the websight and you can find details for all currently available 2024/2025 tours

Ok banner excitement post officially over

Facebook family I'd love a little assistance if you can spare the time.

Over the next few days I'll be posting the event links for the 2025 Adland Tours

If you have a moment to go to our page and follow us and or liek the page it would mean the world.

Most of you know me from the world of theatre - some of you know I've recently taken over leading the team for Adland Tours. For me this is an exciting a new direction to take drawing on the passion that theatre has given me for taking people on a journey.

I'm in the process of trying to bring the company which has operated almost exclusively by word of mouth into the social media world.

I'd love it if you can like our page and or check out our events/tours.

Here is the first of the event links for 2025

Picture Perfect Patagonia 2025

If you want us to follow up with ypu please click going and or send us a message but it would be awesome if people who visit the page can click interested even if ypu are not thinking of going. Ever click in Facebook land and promoting a company means a lot.

Thanks in advance for taking an interest in my journey and I hope thst one day you will be on tour with me.

HOPE NIGHTS- WHAT IS IT? - James Adler

After many years in theatre, including my time as the Artistic Director of Eagle’s Nest Theatre what I notice more and more is that for me the joy of theatre is found in rehearsals rather than the show.

The rehearsal room is a vision of what I wish the world could be more like - a safe container. A place where you can play with your whole self, body and voice, share your ideas and feelings knowing you'll be heard, held and respected, a place where making physical contact with a stranger, holding hands, sharing a massage or hug isnt strange but safe, and a place where in collaboration and community we grow and become together.

Another thing I notice is that going to the theatre has lost some of its charm. It used to be a special event, something we would get dressed up for, and it was an opportunity to mingle in society - but these days going to the theatre is about as exciting as taking yet another international plane flight - we go, we sit in the dark, we make our obligatory minutes of chit chat about the art and then without breaking out of our social bubble return quietly home.

Between these two realisations I have concluded that something has to change for me - i believe its time to stop making and passively attending theatre and time to start actively living it.
