ODD BALL 3: MARTHOUSE FOREVER

Dr Sure’s winter ball at Brunswick Ballroom is back on July 25 for its third iteration, doubling as a celebration of Marthouse Records.

Now in its 10th year Marthouse Records, the indie label founded by Dougal Shaw, is pulling up stumps — but not before one last blow-out, with an all-Marthouse lineup:

Live sets from Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice, The Vasco Era, It Thing and Tali & The Arms.
DJ sets from Sunnyside, Gut Health, Heir Traffic and The Backs.
Red carpet, photobooth, prizes for worst dressed, Marthouse vinyl sale… some rare merch and test presses perhaps?
Dust of your worst suit, ball gown, gorilla costume. In the spirit of the label, all are welcome — friends and freaks, reptiles and revolutionaries, oddballs and outsiders.

BLACK MARKET CLASH & LOONEE TUNES PLAYS THE SPECIALS

England, late seventies. Punk and ska collide.

The Clash. The Specials. Guitars cutting through Jamaican basslines. Punk stripped it back, ska kept the pulse moving, and by 1978 and 1979 the same rooms were filling with kids from different scenes, suddenly dancing to the same pressure in the air.

Black Market Clash bring the songs of The Clash with the edges intact: Should I Stay Or Should I Go, Straight To Hell, Safe European Home, Lost In The Supermarket, Janie Jones and more.

Loonee Tunes, formed in 1982 and Australia’s longest-running ska band still performing regularly, take on The Specials from the inside out: A Message to You, Rudy, Too Much Too Young, Gangsters, Concrete Jungle and more.

NORTHSIDE MUSICIANS CHOIR FT. ROWENA WISE
Monday 22 June & Tuesday 23 June / 6.30pm

Northside Musicians Choir is teaming up with the talented Rowena Wise for a special night at the Brunswick Ballroom.

Led by Grace Robinson, the 80-member choir brings together musicians, artists, and music lovers from all over Melbourne. They perform arrangements that range from folk and pop to gospel and contemporary music.

The night starts with the choir performing their own songs. Then, Rowena will take the stage to share her new album, joined by the choir in arrangements created by Grace Robinson.

This event is more than just a concert. It celebrates voices, community, and the joy of singing together. All proceeds help keep the choir running and make it accessible for young people in the arts.
