“One stroke can reflect the whole world”
Vasily Kulchenko is a self-taught contemporary impressionist abstract artist who resides in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island. As Vasily states: “My art is a reflection of light and shades puzzled in a way to create experience of transitioning to harmony, to reflect infinitely subtle variations of surrounding nature”. His mother enrolled him in art classes. Vasily
was enrolled into 2 year right away due to advanced art skills at that time. Later at the age of 14 his art was selected for various local exhibitions and awards. He was able to complete the whole 5 year course in 3 years, however he continued on going to art school after official graduation attending many plain airs and art history sessions. Family support and Vasily’s passion in art has expanded. While exploring different styles and techniques, Vasily’s interest was drown into design and architecture. However, passion to help people more made him to choose medicine as a carrier. During Vasily’s long journey as a self-taught artist, he was able to continue on exploring art world, be around professional artists/designers to share and receive extremely valuable feedback for his work, to have a guidance throughout his journey. The main contribution into current Vasily’s style was a time when he lived in Sant- Petersburg. Visiting world famous museums Hermitage, Russian museum, many exhibitions created the vision and guidance for Vasily’s pathway. During that time he was able to visit some famous European museum in Helsinki, France, Spain, London, Dublin, to explore thoroughly history and art work of Impressionists. Vasily’s favourite expression is: “One stroke can reflect the whole world”. In his work he tries to catch a moment when the light creates the most memorable game with shades and colours.
