STACK'S FRIDAY FLICK - 'Back to the Future Part II' (1989)

'Back to the Future' creators Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale never intended to make a sequel, but their 1985 movie became such a hit that Universal Pictures soon came looking for another.

That iconic “To be continued...” end card was added to the home-entertainment release of the original film, successfully stoking audiences’ desire for a sequel.

Part II took the winning formula of the original and cranked everything up. Bigger stakes, more timelines, multiple versions of Marty, and a futuristic 2015 that somehow managed to predict video calls, wearable tech, biometric scanners, and endless screens everywhere. Not bad for a movie made in the ‘80s, although we’re still waiting on rehydrated pizza and hoverboards.

Shot back-to-back with Part III, the sequel pushed the franchise into darker, more chaotic territory while keeping the humour, heart, and sci-fi adventure intact. It also quietly marked the screen debut of a young Elijah Wood in the Café 80s scene.

Over the years, Part II has developed a huge following of its own, with many fans now arguing it’s the boldest and most inventive chapter of the trilogy. What do you think? Let us know...
