Some projects carry a certain weight to them…
this was one of those.
This piece was commissioned for Helvetia House, a remarkable renovation by Austin Maynard Architects — a home widely recognised for its bold yet deeply considered approach to contemporary living, and featured on Grand Designs.
The architecture is strong, intentional, and quietly complex.
Which meant the artwork couldn’t simply sit within the space —
it needed to hold its own while softening it at the same time.
From the beginning, the brief was to create a centrepiece artwork
that would bring a sense of tactility, movement, and calm into a very structured environment.
Something organic.
Something that shifts with the light.
Something that feels… lived with.
And that’s always the balance I’m drawn to —
work that doesn’t compete with architecture,
but instead grounds it, and gives it a different kind of presence.
What made this even more special were the clients behind the project.
Thoughtful, open, and deeply trusting of the process —
the kind of collaboration that allows a piece to evolve into something more than initially imagined.
There’s something incredibly meaningful about contributing to a home like this —
one that’s been so carefully designed, and will continue to evolve with the people living inside it.

For those exploring commissioned artwork for contemporary homes,
or looking for a textural statement piece that brings warmth into architectural spaces —
this is exactly the kind of work I love creating.

Curious…
when you think about your space —
does it need something to fill it,
or something to hold it?
