POLYCHROMASIA

mixed media on flat canvas sheet

Finished this textured mixed-media portrait, titled to reflect the rich variety and intensity of colours across the surface. The deep magentas, electric blues, and luminous golds create a surrounding flux of emotion and material history.

The graphic black profile and blindfold stand as a stark, quiet contrast to the vibrant, layered world enveloping it. This exploration of Polychromasia was inspired, in part, by the jewel-toned palette of an hummingbird brooch.

Focusing on making the work more textural and less flat was a key goal here.

EMPTY SPIRAL

mixed media on cardstock

A mixed-media visualization of what it feels like to be trapped in your own thoughts. The figure is hunched and immobilized, symbolizing mental paralysis. The black restraints blind the figure to the external world and keep them trapped, while the deep violet speaks to the psychological bruising of the mind. The hole in the chest is the void that consumes the self, contrasted sharply with the chaotic, fractured energy of the gold explosion that represents an overloaded, spiraling series of thoughts and emotions.

LACRIMOSA

mixed media on cardstock

sorrow rendered sacred.

A meditation on how grief reshapes us, how tears become vessels for what words can’t hold.

Created in watercolour, acrylic, charcoal, graphite and pastels with each medium tracing a different layer of emotion. Here, pain is transmuted into pattern, and mourning becomes a quiet form of devotion.
