ReAction Theatre, Melbourne

ReAction Theatre, Melbourne ReAction Theatre is an independent Melbourne based theatre company formed in 2011. We believe that theatre is so important that it needs to include all of us.

We create and co-create theatre from non-traditional materials for wide-ranging audiences. Our outputs vary—from multimedia to minimalist, from scripts to devised—but the process remains centred on key values: multi-vocal collaboration, the body and voice as connectors, the importance of questions over answers, and the embodied citizenship that comes from collective catharsis. ReAction Theatre has

successfully produced a number of new original works including a sell-out season of ‘TOBY’ by Abe Pogos at La Mama Theatre; ‘At the Water’s Edge…’ – a series of 7 short plays; a World Premier of ‘Heart Thy Neighbour’ by Camilla Maxwell and ‘Appropriate Kissing for All Occasions’ by David Finnigan which was praised for being ‘…utterly brilliant’ by the AU Review

Lately, our focus has been on developing the most ambitious and technically challenging piece to date, ‘Secret of the Raft’ - a bilingual French/English theatrical experience that combines projection mapping, installation, and live performance to bring to life the iconic French painting ‘The Raft of the Medusa.’

A big thank you to Antipodes Theatre Company for running another fantastic Play in a Day. 🙌👍

This creative marathon brings together four writers, four directors and eight actors, who have just 24 hours to write, rehearse and perform four original ten-minute plays. It’s an extraordinary celebration of collaboration, creativity and taking artistic risks.

I had the pleasure of directing BABYFACE, a sharp, funny and moving new work by Callum Cheah, brought to life by a wonderful team of artists.

If you’d like to see what can happen in just 24 hours, you can watch the clip here or via the link in my bio:

So much fun and a privilege to present this stunning brand new work by .chair A piece that takes place in the world of WWE, but opens into something much deeper. A portrait of a man, an artist, slowly being consumed by the machine around him.
We had just one day to bring it together, and I truly couldn’t have asked for two better actors. E andpeele pulled out all the stops bringing both humour and vulnerability to the work.
Huge thanks to for fostering such a generous creative community, and to and for all your support and resources. Thank you to my awesome facilitator on the day, .leigh
Huge congratulations to all the other artists who presented. I’m so excited to see what comes next!

Huge congratulations to our extraordinary cast and crew for the focus, stamina and generosity they brought to our presentation of ‘La Souris Blanche’ in . What they achieved across this season was no small thing.

Thank you to the team at for hosting the work and supporting the season. It takes a lot behind the scenes to make a run possible, and we appreciate everyone who helped bring it to the stage.

This season, we delivered a fully immersive French-language production to multi-generational audiences, from high school students through to adult theatre-goers. We were also honoured to have the French Ambassador, -Andre Imbert, from and Jan Adams, , in attendance, which meant a great deal to the whole team.

Behind the scenes, it was a big push: bump-in, six completely sold-out shows across three days, plus travel there and back. It demanded real stamina and commitment from the cast, and they rose to it.

I’m incredibly proud of what was achieved and grateful to everyone who helped make it happen. Merci beaucoup!

What a week in presenting La Souris Blanche. We shared three student performances and three public shows, all completely sold out, with some really thoughtful Q&As afterwards. Watching students and audiences connect with the work like that was something special.

A real highlight was visiting the Embassy of France in Australia, and then having the French Ambassador -André Imbert join us at the show. It meant a lot to our whole team and made the week feel even more memorable.

Huge thanks to everyone who came along, asked questions, and supported an independent show travelling from Melbourne. We’re home now and very grateful (and a little tired!) after an incredible run.

For the first time, we’ve sold out the same show twice! The initial release of ‘La Souris Blanche’ sold out about 3 weeks ago. We were able to add additional seats, and those have now sold out as well. 😮 It’s a clear reminder of just how much appetite there is for theatre that’s driven by visual storytelling and language.

We head to next week for ’s first tour, presenting performances for both schools and public audiences. This tour has only been possible because of the generosity of our donors. Independent theatre runs on belief and backing, and we’re deeply grateful for both.

and I also had the opportunity to speak on ABC Canberra about learning scripts phonetically and the responsibility that comes with translating and performing work across languages. So proud of the team, and looking forward to what’s coming next!
