Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Bunjil Place are proud to announce CrossCurrents: National Jazz Commission — an annual $40,000 commissioning and creative development fund for Australian-led jazz, improvised and contemporary music projects created in collaboration with international artists.

"This partnership represents a major investment in the future of Australian jazz and improvised music. We're kicking the series off with Jon Hunt & The Blue Devils — led by internationally acclaimed clarinettist and saxophonist Jon Hunt, the Melbourne-based ensemble channels the music of jazz pioneers Sidney Bechet, Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington, while uncovering rare and delightful Australian gems from the 1920s and ’30s.
