Congratulations to alum Heidi Freeman on her appointment to the Paris Opera Ballet!
Since graduating from The Australian Ballet School in 2019, Heidi has forged an impressive career with Queensland Ballet, first as a Jette Parker Young Artist and later as a company artist.

Joining the Paris Opera Ballet marks an exceptional achievement. Renowned for its extraordinary artistic heritage, uncompromising standards and centuries-long legacy of excellence, the company represents the pinnacle of classical ballet for many dancers around the world.

Speaking about the opportunity, Heidi said: "I’m beyond excited and just so grateful for this opportunity, it feels surreal to be joining this iconic company for their 26/27 season. I’m looking forward to making the most of what will be undoubtedly an inspiring year!"

We are so proud of Heidi's achievement and look forward to following her next chapter in Paris.

Yesterday at The Round. ✨

After months of training, rehearsing and refining, there's nothing quite like bringing it all to life on stage! From grounding through breathwork before the curtain rises, through the joy of the performance, to the exhilaration of the final curtain call and celebrating with friends.

Here's a look at some of our favourite moments captured throughout the day.

Behind the scenes, before the tour. Take a look back at rehearsals with our Level 8 students before they joined The Australian Ballet On Tour.

Now in Adelaide, they're performing alongside company artists as part of a defining graduate-year experience, bridging the gap between training and professional practice.

Adelaide audiences, we'd love to see you at the performances! Tickets: https://bit.ly/4bxUIXn

Meet Malakai Jessop, one of our 2026 Level 8 students!

Born in Sydney in 2008, Malakai began dancing in hip-hop at age seven before discovering a passion for ballet after watching Sergei Polunin and Tamara Rojo perform Marguerite and Armand. After training in Canberra with Jackie Hallahan and Paul Knobloch at the Dance Development Centre, he joined Level 5 at The Australian Ballet School in 2023, relocating to Melbourne and boarding at Marilyn Rowe House.

Since then, Malakai has embraced intensive training and performance opportunities, working with renowned teachers and choreographers and performing excerpts from Don Quixote (after Rudolf Nureyev) and Balanchine's Scotch Symphony. Deeply inspired by classical ballet's blend of technical discipline and artistic expression, he aims to bring clarity, intention and strength to every performance while continuing to develop his own artistic voice. He aspires to join a professional ballet company and perform major classical repertoire.

Outside the studio, Malakai enjoys spending time with friends, exploring cafés, listening to podcasts, and going for walks.

Exciting announcement! Five of our students have been seconded for The Australian Ballet's Brisbane season of John Cranko's Romeo & Juliet.

Congratulations to Ronan Cameron-Gleeson, Brendan Goldsmid, Dante Minassian and Colton Craig in Level 7, and Samuel Holmes in Level 8.

This incredible opportunity comes as many of our Level 8 students are performing with The Australian Ballet On Tour, opening the door for some of our talented Level 7 students to step into this professional experience.

We are so proud of these students and wish them every success as they take to the stage with The Australian Ballet. We can't wait to follow their journey 👏
