Our final dance was Tiro Lilo which involved four of our youngest PAA kids! Well done to all, and the brave members of the public who joined in with such short notice and enthusiasm!

Yesterday’s PAA Zhang Festival celebration was filled with the usual Peranakan warmth and fun.

Members enjoyed a delicious catered Nyonya Mee Siam lunch, followed by each person receiving a Zhang and sweet Kueh for dessert. A big thank you goes to Nyonya Judy Teo and her team for their excellent effort in smoothly organising and distributing the food.

After the meal, the room quickly turned festive with karaoke, singing, and dance performances. As always, what made it special was the laughter, participation, and the joyful spirit of members coming together to celebrate culture and friendship.

🌺 ME IN MY KEBAYA 🌺

As part of Threads of Heritage: The Kebaya Showcase, we are inviting people from around the world to participate in a special community project called Me in My Kebaya – Celebrating Where the Kebaya is Worn Around the World.

We would love to showcase photos of people wearing kebaya, whether taken recently or many years ago. Individual, family, and group photos are all welcome.

The idea is simple: we want to create a visual celebration of the kebaya and the many communities around the world who continue to wear and cherish this UNESCO-recognised cultural heritage.

Photos submitted will be featured in a slideshow during the exhibition on 18th July, highlighting the people, places, and stories connected through the kebaya.

📸 Have a favourite photo of yourself, your family, or friends wearing a kebaya? We would love to include it.

🌏 Please help us spread the word by forwarding this invitation to friends, family, and communities who wear kebaya. We would love to see participation from Peranakan, Indonesian, Malay, Thai, Eurasian, and other communities connected through this beautiful tradition.

Whether your photo comes from Melbourne, Malacca, Penang, Singapore, Perth, Jakarta, Bangkok, or anywhere else in the world, help us show where the kebaya is being worn today.

📅 Submissions close on 15th July 2026.

👉 Submit your form here: https://forms.gle/MaGnrnGZCndAB4aA9

♥️ Together, let’s celebrate where the kebaya is worn around the world.

Thank you / Kamsiah / Terima Kasih 🙏

Hello Melbourne Peranakans,

We would love you to meet Baba Cedric Tan ✨

For more than three decades, Baba Cedric Tan has dedicated himself to preserving, promoting, and sharing the rich heritage of the Baba Nyonya Peranakan community.

From cultural exhibitions and fashion shows to talks, performances, publications, and museum collaborations, Cedric has played a significant role in keeping Peranakan traditions alive and accessible to younger generations. Looking through the collection of photographs he recently shared with us, some dating back to 1995, it is remarkable to see the depth of his contribution and his lifelong commitment to cultural preservation.

His expertise has been sought by museums, universities, cultural organisations, media outlets, and government bodies. Most recently, he served as a consultant to Malaysia during the multinational nomination that led to the Kebaya being inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2024.

On 18 July, Cedric will bring part of his personal vintage kebaya collection to Melbourne and share the history and evolution of the Melakan Nyonya Sarong Kebaya.

We are honoured to welcome one of the region’s leading Peranakan cultural advocates to Threads of Heritage: The Kebaya Showcase.

🎟️ Early Bird tickets close 30th June. BOOK NOW as spots are limited: https://www.trybooking.com/DMONJ
