The Comedy Theatre is one of Melbourne’s prized heritage theatres and has been refurbished to accommodate up to 1,000 patrons for a diverse range of theatre, comedy and live entertainment. One of the Marriner Group venues in the Melbourne CBD, the venue holds a vital place in the city’s vibrant live entertainment scene.
Built in 1928, the theatre is a blend of European flavours. The exterior is a replica of a Florentine palace and the interior shows a strong Spanish influence. The Comedy Theatre still maintains a lot of its original characteristics including balcony seating, a generous foyer and an elegant staircase.
Famous shows and festivals to have played at the Comedy Theatre over the years include Rock of Ages, The Rocky Horror Show, Avenue Q, Little Shop of Horrors, Calendar Girls, The Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Melbourne International Film Festival.
