Wombatuque

Wombatuque Pronounced /ˈwɒmbatuːki/, we bring 'Samba de Raiz' to Melbourne We respectfully acknowledge their Ancestors and Elders, past and present.

We play Samba de Raiz and traditional Samba from the Recôncavo Baiano, among other folklore influenced by Capoeira. Our repertoire includes original tunes, as well as songs by the renowned Fundo de Quintal, Zeca Pagodinho, Candeia, Dorival Caymmi, Clara Nunes and Paulinho da Viola, among others. We acknowledge the Woi wurrung and Boon wurrung language groups of the Eastern Kulin Nations on which u

nceded lands we play our samba. We also respectfully acknowledge the Ancestors and Elders of the First Nation peoples of Brazil and the Bantu, Jeje, Nagô, and "Malês" peoples of Africa who were forcefully brought to Brazil during the Atlantic slave trade.

Alcides Neto 🔥🔥🔥

This week’s PBS Feature Album is Amu, the debut album from the Naarm-based, Brazilian jazz musician Alcides Neto.

Written in stages over several years, Amu began to take shape during lockdown and culminated with the final piece in early 2023. Each track carries its own imprint, with each song anchored in a shared source of inspiration. Growing up in the countryside of São Paulo state, Brazil, the landscapes, rhythms and memories quietly guided the music. For Alcides, music is central to his identity, practicing allows him to stay connected to himself and as a migrant, to his community.

Tune in all this week to hear tracks from Amu, and check out this week's full list of PBS Feature Sounds on our website: pbsfm.org.au/news/alcides-neto-amu
