Most people think you’re funny or not funny. But you CAN actually learn how to do stand-up comedy. There’s an art to it, just like there is to theatre, dance and music. It’s a skill. Yet there are so few places to learn aside from practicing at seedy bars at 11pm.
ALL the women I know are pretty funny ...when they let loose and reclaim their besharam self. We pitched to program to Bunjil Place to run a supportive, intensive and very practical comedy training program for women of colour comedians AND they said yes! We only have 10 spots left and it’ll be run in Narre Warren (City of Casey) and taught by the very talented and very funny Annie Louey. After 8 weeks there will be a live public showcase (12 Sep - mark it in your calendar). Applications close on 15 June.
We ran this course 2 years ago thanks to City of Melbourne and it was so impactful and one of my personal highlights seeing emerging comedians draw fromt their rich lived experience and create relatable material.
I’ve been waiting for the right partner to come on board to run it again. Huge shout out to Marisa Cesario and Brad Spolding for making this possible.
Register before 15 June at the link in bio! We’re accepting people on a rolling bases so spots may fill out before 15 June.
