What a lovely opening yesterday at Quadrant Gallery in Hawthorne!

I met the other artists and chatted to a few intensely creative and clever souls, Cetta did a great speech, her insights are always invaluable ( sometimes it’s so surprising to hear how others interpret your work- especially as a whole).

The works of the other artists is amazing: 7 painters/ photographers and 1 sculptor - and all work is different but very special.

This is an exhibition that is so worth going to- Art enriches your life and feeds your being.

Saturday 16 April 11 am-12 there is another chance to meet us: most of us will be present speak about our work!

Sometimes life just works out: Just when I picked up 3 bronzes from foundry for finishing, i popped into Quadrant, and they asked me if I wanted to participate in a small group exhibition.

Meaning: small group- Great work!

Yes I do!! I’m so excited to join, as all the other artists make amazing work!!

3 new works- 3 existing works- all for sale .

‘Moving on’ - bronze bird created in wax, cast by , and patina by the amazing Jake ( at MalWoodfoundry) -

All the guys at there foundry have been an amazing part of this sculpture process- letting me use a room, teaching me TIG welding ( thanks Gabriel and Nick!) and of course- the conversations about meaning, depth, and how the patina brings it out of the bronze. It is fantastic when cooperation enhances the work, and clarifies the vision behind the image.

Patina is such a specialist skill, I am so happy with the outcome.

Will be shown 9- 29 May as part of ‘ in the spotlight’ .

Wildling-

Inspired by being blessed to observe a pack of African wild dogs and their pups play and run . Their fluid movements, intense intelligence and awareness of their surroundings, their connection to eachother, and protectiveness without hovering towards their pups… It was just so beautiful.

Spent a day at with the wonderful Jake- who is wonderful at doing Patina, and really has ‘the eye’…

Patina is such an important part of bronze- and can make or kill your work. It is scary to hand over this part of the process as it adds a whole new story to your work. I know I’m safe in Jake’s hands though, as not only did we have great conversations on the meaning of my work and more- but with his experience and sensitivity for colour ( and knowledge on how to get there) - he makes sure the result is better than expected or even dreamed of.
