What a stunning day here in Narrm. I’ve been out early today planting in some new Lomandra longifolia “KARA” in language. One of my favourites for the garden, planting close or “clumping” will encourage butterflies to my garden. One of the most important plants to Kulin woman as not only does it supply reeds for weaving but it also grows seed flowers which were used to ground bread. These little tube stock were $2 at my favourite Indigenous nursery “Bungalook”

The humble worm, the risk taker, the world traveller. Are you seeing lots of these little guys on the concrete atm with all the rain. Some believe when the rain comes their holes get filled with water and they can’t breathe. This is not true, worms can breathe in water but come to the surface in the rains as the wet ground lets them travel easier.
These little guys are taking a risk and with the wet they begin looking for new land and of course a mate;) .. they don’t realise the concrete keeps going, they think it’s a rock and will be easy to cross. Sadly the sun comes up and interrupts their journey, the concrete heats up and they dry up pretty quickly. I spend my early mornings popping them back into the grass or in the garden admiring their adventurous spirit for a new world

Are you all snuggled under the covers ? Bullarto Dumbalk (plenty winter) is here. Days are short, nights are long. Wyeeboo Lark ( low, thin, mist) falls over the tall trees, temperatures are low.
BELLIN (currawong) tells his story. He is the guardian of the Cabbin (cold) You will hear him bring in the frost on his breathe and in his call. The Beek (country) near the rivers and creeks is often flooded the lowlands wet and cold. Powerful owl is nesting in the large hollows amongst the forest trees. Look to the Tutbyrum(stars) as we come into the constellation of Bunjil(eagle) it is the time to sit still, take in the Dumbalk sounds look up to the Boorurn (sky) to see
Meniyan(moon) so close now. It is the season of family. This exert is from my book “ Kulin Tales”

One of the Must haves in my garden. Nasturtiums not only look beautiful and taste beautiful ( I use mine in salads,
Soups and stews ) they are an incredible antibiotic, one of the best in the plant kingdom. It’s also renowned for its high vitamin C content and potent phytochemicals, specifically glucosinolates. It is valued in traditional and herbal medicine for its
natural antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties, particularly supporting respiratory and urinary tract. So easy to grow and a brilliant addition to your diet.

Winter is creeping in and I have a new batch of my “4 Thieves “ tonic ready. This recipe has been treasured since medieval times and was said to be used during the time of the Black Death to prevent catching the dreaded disease. It is a very strong immune booster and germ killer and is absolutely amazing for coughs colds and congestion. I have infused fresh organic
Thyme, Rosemary, Sage, Lavend er, Native Mint and garlic in organic apple cider vinegar for 2 months and can highly recommend this if you are looking for something to keep winter sickness away.
