Good morning,
We wanted to quickly share some key takeaways from last night’s Federal Budget, announced by Treasurer Dr Jim Chalmers on 25 March 2025. With a federal election on the horizon, this Budget includes a number of headline measures — but keep in mind, they’re all proposals until officially legislated.
Here are some of the main highlights:
- New personal income tax cuts for all Australian taxpayers from 1 July 2026.
- Higher Medicare levy low-income thresholds from 1 July 2024.
- A 20% reduction in student loan debts, plus changes to the repayment system from 1 July 2025.
- Restrictions on foreign ownership of housing and more funding for ATO compliance.
- Support for small businesses with extended instant asset write-offs and energy bill relief.
- Pausing excise indexation on draught beer and boosting excise remission schemes for alcohol producers.
We’ve attached our full Federal Budget Tax Report if you’d like to dive into the details.
