Following on from our brief Budget update sent last night, we have now prepared and attached a more detailed Special Edition BSA Federal Budget Report.
As expected, the volume of commentary, media reaction and client questions overnight has been significant — and understandably so. If implemented in their current form, a number of these proposed measures represent some of the most substantial changes to the Australian tax and structuring landscape in decades.
The attached report provides a more detailed overview of the key announcements and proposed reforms, including:
• Changes to negative gearing
• Proposed CGT discount reforms and new minimum tax rates
• Family trust distribution measures
• Business tax changes and instant asset write-offs
• PAYG and employer-related reforms
• Broader economic and regulatory measures
Importantly, these remain announcements only at this stage and will still need to progress through the legislative process. As always, the detail, transitional rules and final drafting will be critical.
We are already reviewing the implications for a number of client structures and investment arrangements and will continue to keep you updated as further detail emerges.
